  1. Depending on your setup I can offer two suggestions:

    1.) If you do not have a CD changer, but do have a CR-22, CDR-22 (BE4467), CR-220 and CDR-220 (not CDR-210) Radios. you can buy an adapter here:

    Becker MP3 Player Adapter

    You pull your head unit out and plug this in and then you can play any MP3 player in the AUX mode of your stereo as if it was a CD changer.

    2.) You can replace the head unit with a Blaupunkt Brisbane SD player that plays SD disks and actually has the same connections as the factory stereos. Easy install.

  2. Not sure if this helps, but the owner's manual seems to indicate some normal consumption is expected and varies based on conditions (including your driving style and oil used).

    I realize your car isn't brand new, but here is some verbiage from the manual that would appear that you are OK.

    Engine oil and fuel consumption During the break-in period oil and fuel consumption may be higher than normal.

    As always, the rate of oil consumption depends on the quality and viscosity of oil, the speed at which the engine is operated, the climate and road conditions, as well as the amount of dilution and

    oxidation of the lubricant. Make a habit of checking engine oil with every refueling, add if necessary.

    Engine oil consumption up to 1.5 liters/1000 km

    (1.6 quarts/622 miles)

    Engine oil consumption

    It is normal for your engine to consume oil. The

    rate of oil consumption depends on the quality

    and viscosity of oil, the speed at which the engine

    is operated, the climate, road conditions as well

    as the amount of dilution and oxidation of the

    lubricant.

    If the vehicle is used for repeated short trips, and

    consumes a normal amount of oil, the engine oil

    measurement may not show any drop in the oil

    level at all, even after 600 miles (1,000 km) or

    more. This is because the oil is gradually becoming

    diluted with fuel or moisture, making it appear

    that the oil level has not changed. The diluting

    ingredients evaporate out when the vehicle is

    driven at high speeds, as on an expressway,

    making it then appear that oil is excessively

    consumed after driving at high speeds.

    If the conditions you drive your vehicle in are dusty,

    humid, or hot, the frequency of the oil change

    intervals should be greater.

    If the vehicle is driven at a high rate of speed,

    climatic conditions are warm, and the load is

    high, the oil should be checked more frequently,

    as driving conditions will determine the rate of oil

    consumption.

    It would seem that you are fine. Depending on conditions of inner parts, it is possible that some wear could be causing increased consumption, but you seem to be in normal range here based on the

    limited information.

  3. Not sure what year you have, what stereo system, Cabrio or coupe? At any rate I have attached the diagram that should apply to your amp location. Should be in the bonnet (trunk in front)

    just behind where the spare tire is located and behind a metal shield.

    You should do a search on this site as lots of folks have had lots of discussions about preferences, challenges, and issues with the stereo systems. If you have the MOST set up or BOSE it will be

    even more complicated. Many choose to just replace all components due to the odd 6 channel configuration.

  4. Hi,

    I do not notice any issues or funny noises, but notice when I turn very sharp (like into the driveway etc.) the front end seems to have a slight popping feel. If it makes any sound it is very faint, but you can feel a popping in the front. The car has around 19K miles and chrono plus if that matters.

    My question is simply, is this normal due to the large wheels (19") and tires coupled with the AWD? Or should I be concerned and or bring to Dealer 1 hour away?

    I notice no other issues when driving and only noise is on hard turns ( not fast turns).

    Thanks in advance for any suggestions/thoughts.

    Also....The weather is extremely cold right now (near or below 0)...Wondering if the tires are making the noise due to the cold?

  5. Not sure on polishing them, but you can get a set L/R online for about $85 with shipping. I think (key word) they apply like most film (3M) where you spray a water/soap mix on the car

    and on the film. Position them, and then squeegee with a credit card or plastic squeegee, then maybe dry with a dryer or lightly with a heat gun?

    I peeled mine off my Turbo with a hair dryer and no trouble at all...It was scary how easy they came off! Then realized they put them on for a reason...The paint gets nicked up quickly,

    so I am waiting on a set to replace them now.

  6. Glad you got in! Not sure if this applies to 2002, but on the new 997 TT there is a manual hood release in the fuse panel door near the driver door hinges under the dash. May check your

    owner's manual to verify. May help for next time? Or maybe this is why the new ones have the release! :)

  7. First of all....Looks like you put a lot of work into this item, so kudos for that. If you are looking for feedback, I would honestly not want that in either of my Carrera's, Cayenne, or Boxster.

    Looks very odd sticking out of the side of the console like that. Appears it would really get in the way of any passenger you might have.

    Just my 2 cents since you asked for feedback. Good job on your effort, just personally don't think it looks practical.

  8. You know a dealership in the Chicago area with labor rates of only $90/hr.?? WOW! The Porsche Exchange was $159/hr. last time I checked. Even most indy's are more than $90/hr. Where are you taking your car?

    Was not sure if anyone outside of illinois would know about Peoria, so that is why I said Chicago "area". I actually drive to the north side of Peoria on Route 6 and there is a Sud's Mercedes, Porsche, Audi, VW dealer there. Very nice place and very nice people to deal with. They do all the work (that I do not do myself), on both my Carreras and my Cayenne. They are very honest and reasonable. The mechanic there also has experience and is willing to install superchargers and other aftermarket mods.

  9. This may sound crazy....I also had a popping when turning at slow speeds. Sounded very mechanical and serious. While it was still under warranty, I took it to the Porsche Dealer and asked them to fix it. After a short time the Porsche dealer said that they used two different tires on these Cayennes....I think one was Bridgestone and another brand ( Continental??). I was lucky enough to have the brand that caused this terrible noise when turning. I thought what you are probably thinking..No way that noise is just a tire...But they said it was common....But of course in true Porsche fashion, would not cover it under warranty! Since the tires were nearly shot at only 7500 miles, I replaced mine with a less "sticky" (harder rubber compound) Bridgestone and had an alignment done as they said it needed it at 7500 miles...Again, not covered.

    Believe it or not, I have never heard that noise again.

    Not sure if this is what you have, but sure sounds like the same noise I had under the same conditions. Seemed to be worse when weather was cold also.

  10. One of the main things to consider is the Rear Main Seals on these cars (and intermediate shaft). This is a costly repair when the seals start weeping oil. I have one 911 that so far has not leaked, and the other one did. One of mine has 26,000 miles and the one that leaked had a whopping 29,000 miles. Porsche is on about the fifth engineering attempt and appears they finally got a set that works. The cost for the one I just had replaced was $1600.00. Also if you are looking at a manual transmission, will want to check out the life of the clutch....Another fun and expensive repair. If Tiptronic, not to woory. If AWD, clutch replacement is even more.

    These are fun cars and actually very dependable for daily drivers....Most normal maintenance can be a DIY if you are a little handy. Otherwise labor at the dealerships (at least here near Chicago) is about $90.00 / hour.

  11. Sorry to see and hear about your car. Many are correct about settling with your insurance Co. and asking how much discount to keep the car. You could sell for a ton $$ on eBay. I would disagree about getting an attorney. Unless you have some cheap insurance company, most are reasonable and would offer fair market value for the car. Many use the same guides as people use to sell cars, or do market research.

    I would suggest ONLY looking to an attorney if you get to an impasse or feel you are not being treated fairly. Attorneys would only add costs to the whole deal...which would come out of your cut.

    Most insurers will consider a "cash settlement" which is where they will offer you an amount (market price), minus the salvage value of the car....

    EX: Care worth $30K could sell at salvage yard for $1500.00....Company gives you $28,500 and let's you keep the car.

    Worth asking anyway.

I have the part ordered, but since it seems like a pain to reach, and there may be other issues, I may just break down and drive the hour to the Porsche dealership. I also need them to fix the air bag fault anyway....That light is on as well. A shame to have these problems when it only has about 26,000 miles <_<

    I guess I will see how lucky I am feeling when the part comes in.

  13. Do you have any leaks - like the coolant tubes on top of he engine?

    I did lay under the vehicle last night and looked up through the plastic covers. There is a hose about 1" that is very near the CTS and where the clamp attaches it to the water neck, it looks like a little orange

    corrosion (like perhaps a leak?). There is never any noticeable coolant in the garage, or from what I can see, nothing on the engine??

    I can try to get a photo if that will help you.

  14. HI,

    My wife's 2004 Cayenne V6 had CEL recently and the fans sound like it is a jet engine. Put a diagnostic tool and got the P0117 code, which should be low voltage on the Coolant Temperature Sensor. If I clear the code, it runs OK for a bit, then comes back on and runs rough at start and the fans come on high.

    So I think I know that I need to change the CTS, and I found it (I think) from another post (what a terrible location!)...I found the part at a Porsche dealer online and it is on its way.

    My Question is: Does anyone have any diagram, shop manual info, tips, or instructions to help me remove and replace? Since it is so hard to reach and see, any help would be great.

  15. Anyone use the JVT headers shown on Ebay? Pretty good price but wondering about quality and any improvement in performance.

    One thing I have been surprised about is the high price of headers from main suppliers.

    Good question. I have seen many and varying prices and they all look like the same maker. Thought I would give them a try :angry: What a mistake! I fought with them for days and finally got all bolts

    to line up...As I began to torque them down, it became obvious that the end holes are drilled too close to the the outlet pipe, and by the time you (I) notice that the bolt is cocked and cross threading. It also appeared that they hang lower than the name brands, and will likely hit bottom in certain conditions. I will humbly admit after all that work and loud exhaust leaks I ended up spending several hundred dollars for a flatbed to the dealer, and more to re-install and tap out the cross threaded holes! Maybe I am just an idiot...But iI have installed many items, and had no luck with these. If you look at the pictures closely, you can see that the end holes are too close for the bolt head to clear.

    I have seen on Vertex website, a reasonably priced SCHNELL ($299) set, that looks more like a factory fit....Once I shake off the horror of stripping out my manifold, I may try those :)
