  1. Fellow Boxster pride,

My problem is the birds darting over the car feel obliged to leave their mark and 99% of the time, these find their way to the top. :soapbox:

Plain water or Windex isn't quite effective to eliminate any remnants of these "Thank You!" marks.

Car's at work daily and for some reason, these birds seem to follow everywhere I park! :censored:

How do you keep your tops black and clean? :)

Appreciate any suggestions or ideas here.

    Cheers!

The link below has a lot of good products and education on how to care for your factory cloth top. Good luck.

  2. We are installing an 997 3.6 engine into a 2003 Boxster, and trying to find out what hose attaches to this aluminum pipe sticking out?

    Thanks

Not sure if this is it, but appears to be. I attached a PET Diagram for you. Looks like tandem pump and goes to a heat exchanger...But I could be wrong. Hope the diagram helps.

    Good luck,

  3. Follow Up....Must have been water somewhere. After a couple of days of no rain and a few starts, the engine light went away. Given the Rich idle indicator, if it comes back, I may assume it is the MAF....For now though, all is clear and no issues

  4. Hi All....

Washed my 997 Turbo today and have had no error codes....After washing it, I drove to the store......No error codes. Got back in and started it and got check engine bring to workshop message.

Drove home....Put the diagnostic tool on it and got: P 8584 System Too Rich Bank 1 & P 8448 Throttle actuator motor open circuit.

Any thoughts? Could water have caused this from washing? The engine seems to run the same (fine)...No noises or rough idle. I could not clear the error either.

    Any help appreciated...

    Thanks!

  5. I have the same sound on my 997 TT as well. It may also be caused by a high flow intake system as well...ie..Fab Speed cone style intakes without an airbox to

muffle the sound of the turbo's spooling.

Thanks for the feedback......I feel better now. I guess I should have taken the Porsche Mechanic's word anyway :)

I do have a BMC Filter and Headers, so guess that combo makes that interesting sound. Sounds a little funny at low speeds, but sounds like

a jet when it spools up at high rpms....

    Take care,

  6. looking for the Alternator part number for a 2002 996 turbo (Manual Transmission) thx!

You can check here and search for those part numbers. Link

Not that it is cheap, but the part # 997.603.012.07 is $1085.80 with $0 core.

And they have this listed for your car also:

Alternator, 911 turbo, manual trans 01-05

    $779.94

    Good luck.

  7. Can anyone tell me what is this Porsche Boxster 986 Rear Spoiler called and where can i buy one? Picture attached. Thanking in advance.

First off...I am going to say this is aftermarket and NOT a Porsche item. It appears to be a 911 GT2 style wing that was modified to the deck lid of a Boxster. If you are looking

for items like this, you may want to start with eBay, and at the very least will be able to identify the makers and contact them directly. Mishaw also makes a variety of add ons.

Prices for these type are up to about $1500-2000 range + install and painting in some cases...

    Good luck.

  8. Hi Everyone:

So, I just returned from another 1000 mile roadtrip (return) and, as I usually do, I spend some time cleaning all the bug crap off my car's bumper and windshield when I get home. I do a lot of these trips, both in the 911 and in a BMW I also own. Over time both windshields have gotten speckled. I assume these are a result of small stones, sand, etc. pitting the windshield at highway speed. They are extremely small, about the size of a grain of sand. The trips are 8-9 hours pretty much non-stop at highway speeds, or slightly faster... ;-)

I am pretty sure they are not from bug grime since no amount of cleaning can get them off. And the windshield is smooth to the touch. I always marvel at other people's car where the windshield is truly clear and clean.

    My questions:

    1. Is anyone in the same boat,

    2. How can I restore the windshield to its sparkling new state.

    Thanks!!!!

    My questions:

    1. Is anyone in the same boat,

Yep...All windshields get pitted from debris ...sand....rocks...etc.(especially at highway speeds)

    2. How can I restore the windshield to its sparkling new state.

Only way is a new windshield. Porsche glass is especially soft compound, but nothing you can do to clear the pits etc.. They make glass polish, which is a mild abrasive but you may

get a blurry effect from sanding on your glass....may have waves or ripples if you are not careful.

  9. Sorry, the car is a 2001 TT 996 with 69K miles. I've owned it for 5 years since 31K miles.

I saw some fluid in my garage and the dealer says its a small leak at the seal to the transfer case. Dealer says the only option is to replace the transmission for $13,000. Porsche doesn't sell gaskets or seals for the 2001 Tiptronic transmission. Any ideas out there as with this kind of service policy this may be my last Porsche. Even a used transmission is $5,000 plus install, etc. Please help if you can. Thanks.

    Hi There....

Not sure exactly what the issue is with your Tiptronic, but there are about 5-6 pages of parts (gears, seals, gaskets, lines, etc.) in the PET Catalog for your car Tiptronic transmission. I might suggest trying a different shop?

    Good luck,

    DC

  10. I want to replace the factory radio in my 97 Boxster, which came with the factory 4-channel amp. My question is, where can I find a wiring harness to adapt an aftermarket radio in with the factory amp/speakers? Does anyone have a wiring diagram of the 97 radio? Any help would be appreciated.

    Rob

I used this image in Photoshop to map wiring in my wife's 996 Cabrio that had a CDR220 a few years ago. Should be similar. I was mapping aftermarket Blaupunkt which actually ended up plugging right in with no splicing.

    Good luck.

  11. Hi guys,

today I went to my local workshop, and I've been told that there are some recalls for my car, they gave me list of the recalls with their codes, which I don't understand anything.

could you please enlighten me what are these codes are. Thank you.

    CAMPAIGNS SCOPE STATUS

    A304 1 1

    A306 4 1

    A311 1 1

    A404 1 1

    W312 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 0

    W313 1,2 0

    W315 2 1

    W316 1 0

    W318 1 0

    W331 2 0

    W335 1 1

    W401 1 0

    W424 2 1

    W555 2 1

    W559 1 1

    W621 1 0

The codes are a list of items that Porsche has found to be defective , unsafe, or otherwise feel would be better to repair/replace. Most (if not all) campaigns are covered by Porsche.

The dealer that gave you this list can provide you with exactly what each of the campaigns entails.

    Good luck.

  12. Its an alignment issue. I had the same deal a week or two ago and they fixed it and now its perfect. You will still notice little bumps and shakes in the road very easily due to how hard the suspension is in a sports car more so than you would notice in a regular car.

The dealer that did the alignment told me that cars like this go out of alignment very easily with pot holes and bumps as to not break any of the sensitive steering parts.

The initial post referred to this occurring when it is cold....Did the dealer explain how it was out of alignment when cold, but not when warm? Without loose front end parts or defective tires, there is nothing to shake??

Just a thought/? Well at least your problem seems to have been solved...Did they also balance your tires?

  13. Hello all, this is my first post and it relates to VIN numbers and what countries they were imported to from the manufacturer.

I am located in Australia and am looking to buy a 924s 5 speed model.

There were very limited numbers of 924s's delivered to Australia, I believe only 35.

I am looking at a particular 924s now, and am wanting to know if this car is 1 of the original 35 imported directly from the factory, and not just a personal import.

How can I find out this information as I don't think the vin number has this info on it. I'm guessing for each country there is a list of vin numbers for each model imported from the factory. How can I get this list.

Any advice will be very much appreciated.

    The VIN NO. is WPOZZZ92ZGN400521

    Thanks

Not sure you can tell, but here is the spec sheet on that car. Good luck.

  14. You cannot get much from old vins...This is about it:

    For your Ex: VIN: 119111217

    11 = 911

    9 = 1969

    1 = Coupe L or Luxury Model

11217 = Sequence or serial number usually 4 digits.....

Not much else. This info came from another article here...Do a search for VIN and you can find what little is available.

  15. Anyone change the idler pulleys on a 996 GT3? The nuts are blocked by a metal frame. How is this removed?

Here is another Diagram of the tensioner pulley from PET. For 2004 996

  16. "Hi + thanks

My car is a 997tt 1st gen with sport chrono.

    1. Where is the "Chrono" button? ? I dont have such button, only "Sport"

    2. I think the images you posted are from Gen 2 Owners manual because it refers to PDK etc."

Yes....It is Sport Chrono....But the button just says" Sport".

Yes...The manual is from Gen 2, but the info about the sport overbost, arrow etc. is the same.

  17. I was having a problem with the car telling me to check my brights after I used them. I removed the headlights and replaced them and that problem cleared up only to be replaced by a turn signal that worked intermittently (yes I know they are only supposed to be on 50% of the time). I removed the offending headlight unit a couple of times and I think it is now OK but during the process, a soft black sealant like caulking came away from some places around the glass. Can anyone tell me if I need to replace this and is there an alternative to sealant? This stuff is not visible when the headlight unit is in place.

    PKN

    HI...

I think you are fine not replacing. Those Cayenne headlight units are a bit crazy. I have had all sorts of fun with mine. And the weird black substance you are referring to. Other than looks, unless you really mangled it, you should be OK. I also do not think it is easy (or at least not that I can tell) to service that separately?? I would not worry if I were you...

I think you are talking about #11 in the diagram I attached. The cost is about $52.00 each side if you decide to replace.

    Good Luck!

  18. Your indicator displays psi. For sure.

    1 bar = 14.5 psi

    Regsrds

That's what I thought, so I don't have an answer as to why I can't get the 1 bar max boost and can't get it into overboost at all.

    thanks

Probably obvious, but wanted to make sure you knew to get the chrono to get overboost, you have to quickly push the accelerator all the way to the floor and you will see a small upward arrow to the right of the boost gauge. That is how you can tell the the overboost is enabled (for 10 seconds). Maybe already knew that, just making sure.

    DC

Arrow ????? What arrow ? Every time you enable "sport" you get an arrow on the boost level indicator???

Please explain because I ve never seen that arrow.

My boost level indicator has a scale up to 1.2 bar. (0 0.6 1.2). Usually boost is in between 0.6 and 1.2.

    Where is that arrow?????

    Thanks

The way the Sport Chrono works....When on....You have to abruptly mash the gas pedal to the floor and you will see an arrow appear to the right side of your center gauge...This lets you know you have engaged the overboost feature. You get 10 sec.'s of overboost with Chrono on. It is a small white up-arrow.

    DC

I cant get this thing displayed.... Questions

    1. The arrow is displayed when the turbo boost level indicator is in the digital mode or in the graph mode???

    2. Assuming you have done everything right (sport mode, full throttle etc) the arrow is constantly displayed or just for a few seconds its time you press full throttle

    3. Maybe European spec cars dont have this arrow???

    Much appreciated

    HI..

Yes, It will display regardless of what display mode you have. Just have to press the "Chrono" button, and jam the gas all the way, quickly. ( I am assuming you have the Sport Chrono Option?) If not, sorry to confuse you.

To the right in the center display. And it does display for just 10 seconds. I attached two images from the Owner's Manual to indicate what we are referring to... Hope that helps.

  20. Hi all.....

I am just looking for opinions here....I installed some stainless T304 headers on my 997 Turbo. I checked for leaks, torqued carefully etc....When idling or running with no boost it sounds pretty much the same as before (maybe a little louder). When I accelerate and get boost...I can really hear the turbos (especially the driver side) spinning/whining. I checked with my mechanic at the dealer (over the phone) and he suggested with these headers you have bigger pipes, longer pipes potentially, and thinner steel than the heavy OEM headers. You have less back pressure and with the bigger opening and thinner steel would expect to hear the turbos more.

I just wanted to check here to see if anyone has any thoughts/experience to put my mind at ease a little. I do not think I created a leak, because it sounds fine until you see boost on the gauge..Then it sounds like a spinning whir, not like a ticking exhaust leak..

    Thanks for any input!

    DC

  21. The last couple of days, I am not getting enough sleep.

Maybe because this 997TT in my garage is connecting to my brain via an unidentified secret method Porsche has built in this car.

My 40th Anniversary 996 is gone, and a 997TT MY2008 has taken its place.

What do you think? Is it as fast as I indicated? Big difference from what you had eh? Can you stop grinning when the turbos are pumping? :) Congrats and enjoy....Oh and be careful!
