  1. You may be onto something here. Recently the rear fuel pump has started whining rather loudly where it didn't do this in the past. Certainly fuel pressure has an affect on idle. I'll look into this and see if the connections are loose like yours.

Was the same with me. Right side noisy . They changed this one and found out, that the main pump on the left was not working.Noise come From right one just because thisOne had to work much more. My advice, check all cable connections or if neccessary change pumps.Dont do it by yourself please.
  2. Thanks for sharing your experience. It is not re-assuring that the issue is not easily identified.

I will follow with TSB and see if 1.1V is present so I can rule out MAF.

The throttle plate cleaning appeared to help in my situation in the past so I may pursue that route.

The only other thing I can imagine is a vacuum leak causing this to occur...... Especially when cold.

    Good luck!

Oh wonder oh wonder, the problem is solved!

What i can say, i had the truck in the shop to replace the fuel pumps. Not because of this idle problem but because of some strange behaviour during full speed driving.

And guess what, THE IDLE DIP PROBLEM IS GONE!!! I am so happy.

What i learned from this, idle dip problems could be caused by fuel pressure problems.

    Merry Xmas

  3. The headlight base & locking unit is not easy to install. I have done it several times, with and without removing the fender (on a 996 it is similar).

You must remove the wheel well liner first.

This gives you access to reach under and behind the unit.

There are several positioning screws which adjust the alignment of the headlamp and must be adjusted correctly otherwise the headlamp will not lock in position.

It must be done according to procedure and with a headlamp adjustment tool(box) otherwise you could blind oncoming drivers causing an accident and significant monetary displacement.

Thank you very much. Very good explaining but i guess i cant do it by myself. Sounds like a lot of work. Thankx a lot !

  4. I don't understand the question.

Is this replacing another headlight? Did you lose a headlight?

It slides in position, then the locking mechanism locks it in. The locking mechanism can be reached using the special wrench in the trunk after removing the little roundish rubber cover in the beauty panel in the front of the engine compartment.

    Hi deilenburger

No i didnt loose a headlight but the headlight istnt sliding in the right position because this unit which ks shown on the pic is broken in some way.

  5. fuel pump

You was right. I went to change the fuel pump. I believed it was the one on passenger side because really strange noises from there.

But, this one was working and only noisy because it had to work much more because the DRIVERS SIDE PUMP WAS FAULTY.

It wasnt working at all but not damaged.just a cable there was not connected very well. So for now car is running fine again

  6. Hi. As i know its a very common issue inside the cayenne community. I had / have the same.

The drop of rpm is a secret issue for me.

We have 2 cayenne s. One has this issue again and again, the other car never had it. This is a miracle for me. We changed coils and plugs, filters. New MAF's and finally in the last weeks a new throttle body. And what you think?! The idle dropping story still continues. So all what i can say, cleaning the throttle body can help you but as you can see in my case, even a new part didnt solve the problem.

  7. Hi friends.

I would like to ask for your opinion.

Last weeks we got the coolant pipes replaced (cayenne s from 2004)

After this i had several times the PSM light show of and the engine slow down to rpm not higher than 3000. i managed to drive home. Next day it was running fine again, but just for some time. After some km the light came on again and i had to stop the car.

Before i return the car to the shop for checking the problem i would like to know, if there could be something related between the work they had done one week ago with the coolant pipes and the PSM problems now.

Thank you very much for your input. Thomas
