I assumed my car has no fuel filter as I could not find one anywhere, does it?
I do believe there is one in what would normally be referred to as the transmission tunnel underneath.
Change out your fuel filter and you will see a big difference. Fuel filter is directly under the driver seat but you will need to take out the plastic cover -under belly....also use disconnect your negative terminals on your battery before replacing the filter....

My 1999 996 C2 coupe 6 speed has an oil leak on the lower drivers side at the lowest point and near the front of the head gasket. the drip is near a small allen bolt just above and about 3" back from the sway bar. Thanks Wiliiam
You have a transmission oil leak...gasket probably need to be replaced...or try to tighten up the bolt.....good luck....

I wiggled the connectors to the coils and took it out for a test drive.
I could rev it past 6,000 RPMs and no check engine light came on.
I will pay close attention to the CEL this week but this might have been the cause of a possible misfire at high RPMs.
When you wiggled the connectors, it locked it in place...just make sure that you snap the connnectors evrytime you chage the spark plugs...you'll hear and feel it snap...

Another cause may be a loose/broken engine mount.
I wondered about that but not sure where to look for it,. The engine mount is right behind the driver seat? I learned to ignore it since it only happens once in awhile. :help:

You did not give the year, model and country information for your car, but the thermostat is a 'one part fits all'. Order part number 996 106 125 52.
It is located on the lower right front of the engine, right next to the water pump (its in the housing that the large main hose attaches to on the right of the engine) To change:
Remove rear underside panel.
Drain coolant.
Remove hose from thermostat housing. (the large hose)
Remove four hex head bolts and remove housing with thermostat inside.
When removed, press down (against spring force) and simultaneously turn the thermostat out of housing.
Reassemble with new gasket 996 106 326 50.
I have a 2000 Boxster and thanks for all the replies, I read the other articles here and bought a new reservoir cover /01 and add coolant in there and now it works fine. Im glad i didnt buy the thermostat yet. ......

Go with bosch platinum 4 because their good for 100,000 miles, I dont know much about the iridium but I know they're expensive...$13 a pop...Bosch plat's 4 is $6 a pop....iridium is stronger than platinum due to it's atomic properties but who cares...

I doubt if you stripped the threads on the allen bolts.
Are you saying that your allen wrench is not a tight fit in the 6 point socket in the head of the allen bolts? So that the internal socket of the coil allen bolts are rounded?
And, are the coil bolts on each side of the engine that you were not able to remove the ones that are closest to the front of the car?
They were both stripped and I had to cut the top of allen bolt to get it off. I finally asked the the guy at Lowe's and he suggested to use a porter-cable cut off tool and it works...thanks for the reply Tool pants!!

I would drain the excess to avoid any damage, but thats just me...I like to follow the manual....

I changed my spark plugs last week but wasnt able to get 2 plugs out because I stripped the bolt for the plug wires cover...the darn thing was hard to reach with an allen wrench and ended up stripping the bolt. Any suggestions how to extract the allen bolt out of the cover without dropping the engine? (not enough room).

Dont forget the check your fuses. I think its E1 and C1... check the shop manual...make sure no blown fuse....

My 00' Boxster makes a thump noise when accelerating, doesnt happen all the time...I feel the thump/knock under the driver seat....any help would be appreciated. :help:
:lightbulb: #1)
Are you the only one driving your car?
Half the time I get my car back from a service appointment, the seat goes clunk as I pull away. The folks who move the car, move the seat but don't wiggle the seat to lock into one of the many locking positions on the sliders. Once it clunks into position the sound goes away until the next service call.
:lightbulb: #2)
I have also experienced a different clunk accelerating out of low speed corners. In that case, one of the semi-circular brackets holding my rear sway bar had come loose.
Thanks for the reply and i will check the sway bar, im the only driver so I made sure that the seat was locked in place.... :king:
