  1. It ended up being the fuel mixture needing adjustment and throttle body? cleaning. Thanks for your inputs! Johnny
  2. I did. They apparently don't do early 911's anymore. Just got a quote for 5-7K from a very reputable place in Oldsmar. I'm waiting on another. Thanks! Johnny
  3. Hello from Tampa, Fl. I have a 78 911SC that is in need of a paintjob (orange peel, bubbling, and some spots paint has flaked off were you can see metal). My paint guy says: the pre-80 911's w/ early galvanized steel are notorious for doing what my car has. Supposedly after 80, the treatment was improved and paint issues resolved. He recommends sanding galvanized seal off (on outer part/exterior)and applying heavy duty primer instead. I thought what made metal "galvanized" was the way in was blended to make it "rust-proof/resistant". I didn't know there's an actual sealant that did this? This guy was doing paintjobs on these cars when they were new so.....he seems to know what he's talking about? Does this sound right? Thanks for your time! Johnny Zayas PS> I wrote a highly respected shop on the west coast and here was their input: Hello from Seattle Wa . sound's like the car has been painted before in an enviroment that was not clean or was just not preped right . anyway without seeing it i'm not sure what the problem is ? But what i recomend is that the car be striped @ a bead blaster the body work done then primed use a acid wash prime on the bare metal then a filler primer on top of that. i would also get a second opinion find a place that does complete paint jobs some collision shops do them but not a lot will. Look for a restoration shop and let them look @ it to see just what it will take . most parts that are galvanized are not to be painted as a matter of fact you cannot paint over galvanized steel without removing the surface. Remember cheaper is usually worst on these cars so take the time to find someone who can do it right and spend the money to have the old paint & body filler removed and you will have a better job . GOOD LUCK.
  4. Greetings Gents, My 78SC(stock motor / valve adjustment 2yrs ago, oil changes every 3-5K, fuel filter's been in for 3yrs, otherwise I haven't touched a thing) has a couple of idle issues: 1. On start up (especially cold) the engine RPM will fluctuate plus/minus 1000RPM - range between 500 to 1500/1800RPM. At times it can sound very rough and even dies. Once it warms up, it's not as bad but, there's still a noticeable cycling up and down with the motor. 2. Approaching a stop as the RPM's come down through 2000RPM, the engine gets stuck between 1500-1800RPM. I tap the throttle and it comes back to the same range. Very rarely will it come down all the way to normal idle (Which is normally 1000-1100RPM). I'm tired of sitting at a red light with my motor revving at 1800-didn't know it was that loud! The car has been doing this for over a year and between a new baby and military schedule, I haven't put the love required into her. Before taking it to the shop I'd like to hear if anyone can help? Thanks again for your time. ** Haven't driven her much in the past 2yrs (Funny how my son is also two?) my guess is 5000 miles. Johnny Zayas Dade City, Fl.
  5. Greetings everybody, I'm new to the list and hope you can share some of your knowledge. I'm replacing my 78 sc's power antenna and was wondering if anyone has done this recently? Recommendations on German or aftermarket model? I'm having the radio and speakers replaced but the shop will not do the antenna (Liability issues with jacking car and removing tire). Thank you! Johnny Zayas Dade City, Fl. 78 911SC Targa
