  1. Thanks Loren. So what I got out of those threads is a) the flashing lights means there is a fault in the tranny, B) there should be fault codes associated with it and c) I should read out those codes. I already had the tranny fluid changed within the last 15k so that is probably not the issue.
  2. Yesterday I came to a light and the "D" and "4" started alternating flashing on my 2001 996 tiptronic. It soon stopped and is back to normal. I have heard this is "limp mode". Would you recommend taking it in to read out the code? Is this the sign of any issue I should be aware of? THANKS!
  3. Thanks for the links. Will try taking off the fender liner and see what is happening when squirting.
  4. Hi I have a 2001 996 and I see a lot of windshield fluid leaking out of the driver side wheel well when I squirt my windshield fluid. There are no leaks in the area under the plastic covers where the tubing is for the squirters. Seems like the pump is located on top of the driver's side wheel well but I can't see it. Any diagrams folks can share or suggestions on what it might be? Thanks in advance!
  5. Here's a video of my 2001 cab 996 window going down. Both windows do this. The rubber folds inward as the windows go down. Is this normal? Then at the end, the window kind of bottoms out, making a thud, as the rubber stops resisting the glass. Would be nice if it didn't do this! Ideas? IMG_1326.MOV
  6. I notice my 2001 996 top won't retract at anything other than stand still. Has anyone tried work arounds to allow retraction of the top when moving? It would be very convenient to have this feature when going in virtually standstill traffic on a hot day, for example. Thanks!
  7. I had my top in service position and already had the back carpet out, thus I was able to get to all the screws in the back area also. You might need to pop the tension straps and remove rear carpet to get to the back parts. I highly recommend E6000 glue and metal washer to re-create the bolt hole to hold the top properly. Thanks. Does anyone have an exploded diagram of how of to get this part out?
  8. So you covered the roll bar pieces with black cloth? Do you have a photo?
  9. This is GREAT info!!! Thank you! Were all the screws holding the piece in place accessible through the back seat area? How many screws hold it in place? I think you are right that the tab is broken; will follow your repair suggestions but first I'd like to take it out and have new material put on it.
  10. I cleaned my drains as stated above and I am still getting water into my rear carpet area! I have a cabriolet. I even tried putting water into the drainage holes above the wheels and the water came right out the drain. Are there any other places to look for improper drainage?
  11. Sorry to hear this... I just had the same water issue in my cab but fixed the drainage issue BEFORE the electrical damage set in. See the thread for clearing the drains: It's an easy DIY (and that's saying something coming from me! :-))
  12. Thanks. Would you or anyone have a copy of this article to share? I don't have a subscription to excellence magazine... THANKS!
  13. I have a 01 996 C4 and when I first got it, I would drive it hard! Many of my revs would reach a little south of the redline and my turns would be quite aggressive. Then, my AOS blew on one of those drives. :-( Since then, I've been thinking maybe it wasn't too smart to drive a 10+ year old car so hard. Now I keep my revs below 6000 and don't corner quite a tightly. How hard do you drive your Porsche when you take it out? Do you come close to the redline frequently, never or once and a while?
  14. Thanks. I read that thread and I am not sure what in particular you wanted me to pay attention to... looked like the guy who thought it was an electrical issue in the remote proved to himself it wasn't an electrical issue.
  15. I have a new clue: it turns out that the button that pops the front storage area works just fine! The only problem is the unlock/lock button doesn't work. But I DO see the LED flashing when I push that button. So the key is partially working. Why would the unlock/lock button not work but the other button work???
  16. Anything is possible but I'd say that's unlikely. The prior owner never had another Porsche.
  17. Thanks Loren 1) where can I get it programmed? Do you you need to go to a dealer? 2) where should I look for this 40 digit number? On the key?
  18. Hi, My spare key (which looks identical to my primary key) is not working ever since I bought my vehicle a few months back. I thought it was the key's battery so I changed it and now the LED illuminates on the key when I press the buttons but nothing happens on the car. Is the only option to go to the Porsche dealership to handle this? Thanks!
  19. Hi, I've been steadily fixing up my '01 996 cabriolet and one area in neglect is the area that sits behind the rear seat and covers the roll bars, etc. Take a look at the photos please. The keen observer will notice a few things: a- some of this panel has lifted up b- the color on the convertible top is different from the fabric area behind the seats c- the fabric is rippling (not affixed in some areas) d- one of the hardtop caps is missing I am trying to decided what to do to make this look nicer. I was thinking of two options: 1- replacing it with a replacement part. Not sure how much this costs but I am sure it is expensive! 2- removing the three pieces and brining it to a upholstery store to have them pull off the fabric and put on new fabric that matches the top color This brings me to my questions: What have others done here? How do those three separate panels lift off (i.e., what holds them down)? Any advice? THANKS!
