  1. Thanks for your help. I'll try the relay. I do have TC. Cluster was replaced because the old one shorted out when the wife spun it in a ditch (along with the climate control unit and had a radiator and AC condensor replaced). How's that! Thanks again, you have been very helpful.
  2. Sorry, I thought by pointing out which picture matched my lights would be enough. I pulled it off, the part number appears to be 986 641 103 00 That number is then followed by a 70c There is also a "VDO" number which is 110.008.721/001 On the bottom there is another sticker with a bar code and a VDO number that is 110.902.273/001 It was purchased as a refurbished part. Not sure where from because my mechanic did it. I don't believe its the light because it does light up when you do a bulb check. I did some testing with the microswitch in the middle underneath the convertible top compartment lid. When I had the top partially open and attempted to arm the alarm, the car beeped. However, if I held down this microswitch and tried again, the car did not beep, so I believe that one works. I have not been able to find the microswitch on the B-pillar behind the driver. It appears this has some affect on the system. Do you or Peter think this could be part of the problem or do you still think its the relay. Regarding the relay, since I live in MT, there isn't really anyone else around to swap that relay with... I think a new one is about $60 which isn't much. I tried to remove it from my car, but it would not come out easy. Do they just pull out or is there a tab to push to release them. Thanks again for all your help!
  3. Also, I no longer have that grinding noise when the top is reaching its limit closing or opening. I had it before. Like I said, I wonder if I have a microswitch issue (the one behind the driver on the B-pillar) and that controls the light as well as the "grinding noise"
  4. My instrument cluster looks like the top one, except the "TC OFF" bulb does not light up, so I guess I have to replace that bulb. FYI, before replacement, I had the bottom one. Regardless, what would cause the convertible top bulb not to light when the top is in the process of opening or closing? It lights when I turn the key for the bulb check.
  5. The car is a 99. Why? The reason I ask "why" is because it appears that when the mechanic (non-Porsche) replaced my damaged instrument cluster he put in a 97 or 98 cluster. Instead of a triangle with the exclamation point for the Traction Control Information light (goes on when system has to work), I have a circle with bars on the inside, but just on the left inside of the circle.
  6. My top works fine and the windows drop when I unlatch it. However, the indicator light for the top does not light up when it is in the process of opening or closing. The bulb is not burned out because it does light when I turn the key in the ignition. Also, previously I had to hold the button in as the top would sound like it was "grinding" to a open or closed position (to fully open or fully close) and turn the light off. Now it seems like a lot less effort to completely close or open the top making me wonder if it is fully closed or opened. Any thoughts?
  7. So you are saying the instrument cluster could be bad? Could something have shorted it out? Oh, more info on the AC. Mechanic wasn't testing it manually, I was mistaken. What happened was, when it was all put together, it didn't work. He found E7 was blown. He replaced it and it blew immediately. He has troubleshooted to the point of removing the instrument cluster and all relays. E7 still blows. E7 will not blow, however, if the climate control is removed or atleast the ground from the climate control is removed. Thanks.
  8. Thanks for responding, Jeff Most of the work was body work. However, an AC condensor and a radiator had to be replaced as well. The mechanic did have to disconnect the outside temp sensor to perform the work, but I can't see how that would cook something. The accident took place on a side street, therefore it was under 70. However, when inspecting the car, the rear spoiler was extended. Nothing was thought of it at the time, but now... PST2 has not reported anything, but I'll verify that with the mechanic. Yes, I can take it to a dealer, however, I live in MT. Nearest dealer is either Calgary (300 miles) or Spokane (about 360 miles). I'm just wondering if anyone has had experience with this or experience with troubleshooting the ECU.
  9. Had the car in a small accident. I live 300 miles from the nearest dealer and since it isn't under warranty, I'm having it done at another mechanic who does specialize in sports cars and imports. Very competent. While it was being worked on the battery went dead and had to be replaced. Its all back together, but there are the following issues: -tachometer doesn't work -climate control is unresponsive -rear spoiler won't work with the switch -while the warning lamps on the dash work, none of the LEDs work -if testing the air conditioner manually, it will blow a fuse (E7 on the schematic) Mechanic has traced and poked and prodded. He figures its either an undocumented fuse, the ECU or the final staging unit. Problem is, Porsche won't assist him in troubleshooting this. There is no documentation on the logic or how to troubleshoot these items. Has anyone had any experience with this?
  10. I did some extensive tracing and work on this. After talking with other people, I found out that all German cars that have rear fog lamps only have the left one lit up. Its the law over there I guess. You would have to trace and jumper the wire at the headlight switch.
