  1. An update to this:- after some troubleshooting it looks like the phone module is causing the random restarts. I took the sim card out and the problem goes away. As soon as I put the sim card back in the random restarts happen. At the time the system restarts it looks like the phone is trying to do something like initialise. Once the system is working phone calls can be made and received fine - till it restarts again.

    Anyone seen this particular issue?

  2. Thanks. Does this adjustment also work for the xenon lights? I think I have the auto levelling ones

Upon doing some more research, apparently there is an 'auto levelling sensor' at the rear of the car that could go faulty and not point the headlights correctly. Anyone have any more information on this sensor and how to troubleshoot it? Any schematics or diagrams would be most helpful.

    Cheers

  3. For a while now i've thought our Cayenne's main headlights were too high, and today when I was travelling in a car in front of the Cayenne at night I realised they actually are too high. We have the xenons (litronic?) lights and I think they are meant to be auto levelling. When the car starts the headlights point and down go back up, but they don't change from the up position, and i'm wondering whether the 'levelling sensor' might be at fault? We don't get any warning lights on the dash or anything like that.

Is there anything I can do myself to diagnose what it might be? I've also noticed some covers under the hood which have a picture of lights on them, which i'm assuming might be some sort of adjustment?

    Thanks

  4. A bit of a weird issue my wife has told me about, so my information may not be totally accurate! A few times whilst accelerating and turning (such as turning in the road or coming out of a parking space) the engine has cut out and the car has required to be restarted. Once restarted it runs fine with no issues, but it's happened a few too many times for it to be something random.

The car is a Cayenne S with TipTronic.

    Anyone had any similar issues?

  5. I did a little experiment today and set all my tyres to 40psi (fronts were 35/36 and back were already 40). I reset the trip computer and it went up to 14-15mpg UK around town - admittedly the engine was already warm. Near our house it went down to 13.5 as it's quite hilly so that is probably another reason why it gets lower. I'm fine with those figures if it's normal, as long as there doesn't seem to be anything going wrong with the vehicle!

Is it ok to leave tyres at 40psi?

  6. I'd like to check whether the fuel consumption on my cayenne is worse than it should be. I took the below picture after driving through the city

    3751dc91-1.jpg

12.5 mpg UK equates to about 10.4 mpg US

When we are stuck in traffic i've seen the mpg figure go down to around 10 mpg (8.5pmg US) and on a normal run it averages around 14mpg (11.7mpg US). We don't exactly put our foot down and are reasonably light on the throttle for these measurements.

Do these numbers sound about right? I've read other owners comments about getting between 16-18mpg on these cars and i'm wondering whether ours is underperforming somehow.

Some things i've checked after reading some other threads:-

    • Engine doesn't seem to be misfiring - spark plugs and coils were changed 9k miles ago (major service at dealer)
    • Oil level seems fine (slightly below max)
    • I don't think any brakes are binding, and car seems to drive fine
    • Tyre pressures seem fine

Are there any other things I can check, and any advice on improving the mpg?

    Thanks

  7. Actually, that isn't a picture of a wheel on my car - I didn't have one to hand so googled one to show the type of wheel. I do recall that my wheels have a grey/aluminium type valve cover on them. I'll try and take some pictures.

On another note, would something like a durametric be able to help me identify what part of the TPMS is not working?

This is a pic of my wheel and the valve - does that look like it has sensors?

Thanks mudman - i'll try some tyre shops

  8. Hi,

The tyre pressure monitoring yellow light stays on in the dash, and when you start up it says it's in learning mode. I've tried turning the TPM on and off and then drove for a few days but the light still stays on.

I have read some threads about this, but a bit confused on how I should tackle troubleshooting this. Could someone kindly give me some things to check?

    Thanks

  9. Hello All,

    First Post!

The fuel filler cap on my Cayenne is stuck in the locked position, and I am only able to open it using the rubber release cable inside the rear of the car. I've read some threads about similar issues and think it might be the solenoid actuator that is faulty.

The tailgate and rear window aren't affected, and I get the following behaviour

    - Upon locking the car, the actuator shoots the pin out to lock the fuel filler cap, and then goes back about 5mm (still locked though)

    - Upon unlocking the car, the actuator does nothing

I've read it could be a fault fuse, but are there different fuses for locking and unlocking the actuator?

    Advice appreciated
