  1. Serbox,

I've got bad news. The tiptronic should only lose 3.5 liters when drained.

I was performing the periodic fluid change for my 996, and had to put in over 5 liters. I did not keep track of how much came out (mistake). The tranny started to shudder and fail to shift into gear. It would shift out, the RPMs go up, then it would slam into gear. I performed the fill procedure 3 more times. during a test run, the tranny went into limp mode and threw a code, Solenoind 2 failure. I thought great. I would just fix it, and went to drop the valve body. Inside the oil pan I found gear teeth. Time for a new tranny. I am still in the process of replacing it. Also, I recovered 9 quarts. Apparently, the torque converter seal fails which would explain the excessive fluid loss.

So, if your tranny shudders or over revs the engine when shifting, perform an oil change. If you recover more than 3.5 liters, consider having the TC seal replaced.

PS I understand it is almost impossible to overfill a Tiptronic.

  2. How to Replace the AOS Bellows

You will need a pliers, bellows, and size 20 EZ hose clamp. Must be the type that can be finger tightened. Nylon zip ties with not work. They have a maximum operating temperature of 185 F.   Remove the driver's side rear tire and place on stand. Verify broken bellows. Take your left hand, start from the front of the wheel hub and guide it into the cavity between the engine and transmission. When you pass the chassis wall, turn right and up. There you should feel the bellows and two hose clamps

  3. The door speakers are only 2 Ohms. Can your amp handle that?

Do you mean 100 micro farads? That capacitor shunts the high frequencies because the door speakers are woofers. When in parallel with the speaker, it forms a low pass filters. This is normal. The other speakers have a capacitor in series with the tweeter to form a high pass filter.

there are no "hidden" capacitors in the wiring.

  4. DOT's 1 through 4 are compatible with each other. DOT 5 is NOT compatible with others. Porsche uses DOT 3 or 4. Use DOT 3 if this is just a street car. It will start off with a lower BP but it absorbs less water and last the longest. Use DOT 4 or racing spec if you're going to track the car to provide the most stopping power. The local track here forces brake fluid change once a year BTW.

  5. Good write up. Let me suggest two things:

When removing the torx screw behind the microphone cove, leave the screw in the hole once it is loose. Then use a pick up tool to remove it. Also, the pick up can be used to start the screw during re-assembly.

Also, when attaching the RCA jack, cut back some of the wire so the jacks lay staggered. This wasy the wiring harness is not such a knot.

  6. Tatzoo,

Sorry to answer this so late. Your tranny was probably low on oil. it slips in 3rd under hard acceleration when low. This happenned to me at the track. Flashing 4th is limp mode. Totally normal. The tranny is trying to save itself.

There is a precise fill procedure, perhaps the shop did not follow it.

Is redline compatible? ZF publishes a compatiblility listing. Use the Pentosin.

Only 3.5 liters of the 10 liters comes out during filter change.

PS: ZF makes most of the shiftable autos today. The 5HP19 series tranny's went into many cars. Getriebe is a subsidiary of ZF.
