  1. Thanks for the replies. I was offered a black (non-metallic) and a black-metallic car. I love black non-metallic... but I was told that the metallic effect on a black-metallic car is not so bad and that it looks like a completely black car in most light situations. It's kinda hard to judge upon how good a black-metallic car really looks, when you don't have a real reference. :( I was looking at cars at our local Porsche dealer, but they only had Basalt black colored cars. Thus I was wondering about the difference between Basalt black and black metallic. My direct problem is: While the totally black car is older, the black metallic car is a little newer, has a better history and is in best shape. Both cars are priced almost the same. Now I wonder which car to pick... :( The thing is that the metallic black car is far away from my place... so it won't be easy to check out the color in real life easily and my Porsche dealer can't really help me neither. All they had were basalt black car. :censored:
  2. Not sure how these colors are named internationally, but in Germany there are two black-metallic paints for Porsches. The first one is black-metallic (translated from German word by word) which was used on Porsche cars (Boxster and 996) until 2002. With MY 2002, a new color, named "Basalt-Black metallic", was introduced (which on photos looks pretty much the same as the "old" black-metallic). However, I am pretty sure that there is a visual difference in real life between "Basalt-Black-Metallic" and the old "Black-Metallic". Can anyone tell me which of these two colors is more "graphite"-like or which color is brighter? ...or in general what the main visual difference between those two Porsche colors is?
  3. Ah, okay... now I got your question. I misunderstood it in the first place. Hmmm... I doubt that the downforce with the upper wing down will be sufficient. Better not experiment with that. I would go for a speed triggered solution.
  4. Hey Tony, the downforce should be sufficient, since... well... it is usually installed on a car that goes over 300. A TT spoiler for the narrow body is also available at RUF (in Germany). http://www.ruf-automobile.de I also love the sideskirts of the RUF-turbo, which I now have installed on my car, too.
  5. If it's a manual transmission then it could also be the clutch. It smells quite strong after heavy usage or if it just gets too hot. Don't know if that smell is comparable to "burning oil", because I don't think I ever smelt burning oil... :rolleyes:
  6. Hey Tony... :) I will definitely keep my Carrera. I found out that I am too deep in love with that car to switch to a C4... ;) However the car on the pictures above is not my 996, but Gerd's (Porme996). It's just accidentally exactly styled like my car, which is a few lines above Gerd's Carrera in the Elfer-Club gallery. Also I recently added a couple of other cosmetic upgrades to my car: I installed RUF sideskirts, a silver hood crest and I am going to mount a C4S reflector strip this week. I will post some pictures of the car as soon as the reflector strip is installed (conversion is complete then). About speedART: I got my C4S tail pipes from speedART, too. But I don't remember the price I paid for them. So you may want to ask Mr. Striening for a price qoute on these, too. You can get pretty much everything from speedART and in most cases it's also a little cheaper than it would be, if you would buy it at a "Porsche Zentrum". Anyway, see you at Elfer-Club... ;)
  7. Well, you can simply keep the original parts, so you can prove that the car was in good shape when you updated to the 03-look. That's the way I did it. ;)
