  1. I went to the drag strip and am trying to figure out why my car ran the same times as it did the last time I went to the track even though the temperature was 61 degrees with low humidity rather than 103 degrees with 100% humidity like the first time I went.

The boost looks to be a constant 1bar but I read that even with a boost leak that can rob you of big power you may still see normal peak boost because the computer is demanding it. So basically the Turbos are working harder to get it?

I have the stock diverter valves with a softronic tune so that is why I am thinking maybe the DVs are not up to the task? They are not honking or anything. I do hear a loud wing gushing noise at wide open throttle but I just figured that it was the normal sound of the turbos or something.

The 2 other guys who went to the dragstrip with me both times were running 0.7 seconds faster with 6mph more when compared to the first super hot day which is to be expected.

So I guess my question is can you actually have a boost leak that will cost you about 100hp and still see normal peak boost?

    Thanks,
    Jason

  2. I replaced the clutch and everything feels great. However I noticed I now have a "blow-off" noise when I lift the throttle in 1st and 2nd gear. Only happens when I am driving easy (but enough to build boost) and then when I let off the gas and clutch in I hear the blow off sound. It is not crazy loud but is there for sure. It also seems to be a little delayed. I drove cars before with a blow off valve that vents to atmosphere and this is basically that only not as instant and not as loud. Any thoughts?PS, the car holds a constant 1bar of boost at wide open throttle.

  3. Sorry for the long read but I really need help.

OK I have been working on cars all my life and didn't even think twice about doing my own clutch job. Well everything that could have went wrong went wrong. Nothing major (until the end), just things that made the job take a lot longer than it should. This is a CM stage 3 clutch using the stock flywheel.

So fast forward to start up after the tranny is back in. I go to start the car and the clutch pedal would not go down at all. I suspected the slave did not go into the "dimple" in the fork. Got a "snake camera" and peeped into the peep hole above the starter and sure enough the rod was not in the dimple. So I take out and re-install the slave and confirm it is positioned correctly.

I go in the car and press the clutch. The clutch goes down easy but stuck to the floor. I thought maybe there was no pressure in the system and will start it do build the pressure. I start the car and there was a very faint rattle for the first 3 seconds and then a loud rattle/clanking so I shut the car off as quickly as I could. Now when I press the clutch down it only goes down half way (it does pop back up when I let go of the clutch though). Another thing I thought I would mention is the even with the clutch not pressed in I can shift the gear lever into any gear easily.

The only thing I can think of is maybe the two contact points on the fork are not on the correct spot on the release bearing (I.E. the release bearing twisted while the fork is in the right spot)? I couldn't really snake the camera to get a look visually. But why the hell would it have make that noise?

I am so frustrated after working so many hours on this thing. And now I feel really bad for it taking up my friends hoist for so long. Thank you guys very much for any suggestions!!!!!!!!
  4. Thanks guys!

The non-Porsche content if this thread has been removed at the request of several members.

These forums are a place for Technical Porsche Discussion. The goal here is not to replace other Porsche boards but to offer folks a place where the content is primarily technical.

From the board Guidelines/Rules - "Please keep your posts on topic - Porsche's and Porsche related technical discussions - period. Non-Porsche related content will be removed."

    Thanks for understanding.

Okay no problem. I figured since this was my intro thread I would throw my other toy in it so people can get to know me better but I undertsand you removing it if it went against the forum rules.

    Cheers,

    J

  5. High everyone,

I have been a happy 996 Turbo owner for about 7 months now. I am over on 6speedonline but heard great thingsd about htis site as well.

Anyway, I have been a Porsche fan since I was a kid. In fact the only poster I ever even had on my wall was a 911 Turbo that I cut out of a car magazine (would have been a 964 at that time). I used to go to sleep dreaming that when I wake up the car would miraculously be in the driveway. lolI have had a few sports cars over the years and recently finished building an LSx FD RX7.After 2 years of building it to exactly how I wanted it, it ended up being a toy that I only drove a couple of times a month (if that). Having the need to drive something fun on a daily basis in the summer had me shopping for another toy. So this summer I (by "I" I mean my wife) decided the time was right for me to get a car I have always lusted for. I was looking at 993, 996 and 997 Turbos. I ended up finding a low miles 996 and fell in love with it.2003 996 TT60,000 kms (37,300 miles)Slate Grey Metallic20" Mod WheelsRennline Race pedalsRennline Floor Pan

I have recently purchased a softronic tune, exhaust system and DV valves but since the car is in storage for the winter I have not tested it with the new mods. Can't wait to feel the extra power.

The car is nothing special compared to many of the rides here but here she is...
