  1. Thanks for the reply. Searching the web on how to remove lower panels. Found bumper cover removal. Nothing on power steering lines or pump other than an actual pump rebuild. Will jack up car tomorrow and see what I can find. Lower covers shouldn't have all the hidden fastners like the bumper and fender liners?
  2. One last update. Fired engine, pump spins free no noise at all. No power steering and fluid all out. Had to drive home 10 miles. Won't have a chance to pull bottom shroud and try to figure out where leaking.
  3. Found a post here that said that penofin eats hoses. Problem is I am leavin town in am for two weeks and I'm not sure what this fluid is on under there. Is PS pump low? Got my usual luck going on here.
  4. I've bee getting used to the 04 tt gradually. It has been driving great and no leaks. Ran to pick up wife and ended up inside for a couple of hours talking. Its -10 degrees out. Started fine..no noises, no noticable drag on engine. Could hardly turn wheels when I pulled out. Had to get it home and in garage. Very hard steering all the way home. Producing frizbee sized puddle of oil on floor as we speak. Threw some floor dry on it. Reservoir for power steering empty. Car shipped from California last week. Water in power steering? Had been driving it in cold..not this cold and had never left it to get cold outside till this time. Any ideas on what I just destroyed? Serpentine looks good. Trying to figure out which one is PS pump. I am 200 miles from any dealer so I am on my own on this repair. Any good diagnostic would be appreciated. Thanks, John
  5. I put new tires on Cayenne turbo 04. Guy I bought from told me it had Pirellis at 60%. What I got were two continental 4x4 contacts in back at about 50% a Pirelli p zero driver front at about 60% but dry rotted and a Pirelli Rosso at about 20% front passanger. SUV was shipped from Cali to Minneapolis where I drove 200 miles north in a snowstorm home. Scary skid monster. Needless to say Ticked off. Got new tires on yesterday. Dunlop Wintersport 3d 265 50 19. This thing sticks like glue now. This tire is fantastic. Quite too. I know most of you don't need to worry about snow ice or cold but for those of you who do these are it. I have a couple of suburbans. I have an '01 6.0 l 2500 (3/4 ton)that is a plow truck as well as daily driver. Have another 99 2500 with a 7.4. These things go through lots of snow. Plus honda accord that has to go in snow. Always use all seasons and everything goes through alot of snow. Suburbans go through heavy snow. So I know what works. Never had these tires or a full time all wheel drive. Thought the all wheel would really be a liability since there would be resistance at all four ends all the time rather than some free wheel. Was a major problem with the slicks. Classic sports car in the winter type thing. Not now. This will go with the suburbans except for the ground clearance. Just wanted to give the thumbs up to these tires. Heavy snow, slush, packed powder, whispy snow on glare ice. Its -4 degrees right now. Guy still thinks I'm wrong for calling him on the tires...his mind thinks that his description is accurate.
  6. Thx again, I am most interested in what need to be dones while changing plastic pipes to aluminum. I had seen somewhere a mention a while back that there were also two plastic "T"s and some other things that go out as well. Anyone know what they are and where they are? I remember one of those Ts were mentioned to be very difficult I think. John
  7. Thx Tim, Records show water pump replaced at 77,000. What will these Cayennes go to? Can I get 200,000 with out huge failures? Figure control arms axle shafts and joints. Engines and transmissions go that far? John
  8. Thx for the response, I have searched through the board and found tidbits. The concern is that I don't want to miss anything while in the guts. I have not found a singular thread that compiles the items that should be addressed while under the intake. The plastic to aluminum pipes are the main objective. I have noticed references to other plastics, fitings and T's to freshen up. A group contribution to a single page of "fix these while in there" is what would be ideal. I am in a frenzy getting things ironed out with this SUV. So many things to resolve quickly. I am so happy to find an invaluable board like this with this kind of information. Being 200 miles from closest dealer service, I will have to do much of the "doable" work. I will certainly become a contributing member. And will research what that means and how it works and what I need to do. John
  9. I have a new to me '04 TT w 89,000 miles. I spent a good bit of time with a dental mirror trying to see if the coolant pipes were replaced. I just can't see it. Tried for 40 min two seperate occasions. The service records I have on the car show that the starter was replaced and some vaccum lines replaced. July of 2009 @ Newport Auto Center Newport CA. But no sign of the plastic lines being replaced. The previous owner told me after I asked explicetly that they were changed. I can not understand why if they replaced the starter they would not have replaced the lines. At this point I can't tell if they were but does not look like it. If they are not replaced then I have to have them done right now. No sense ruining another starter and transmission seals or be stranded. The question is this: What else needs to be replaced while the intake is off and we are in there anyway? Would appreciate a comprehensive detail as to what should just get done here. Thx! Also this one has trailer hitch. Back at the receiver there is a square plate with four screws. Is the trailer harness socket under that plate? Can I plug a 7 pin plug into it if I remove the square plate? This one has a cd changer back there but service records show that installed update trailer hitch system control. Not sure what that actually means.
