  1. for future reference Gumipfledge on your seals and run a credit card between glass and seal before opening car. If the window is dropping and raising correctly when opening and closing the door, then the regulator and motor must be OK as long as it is the same amount as previously? Sounds to me as if the switch has failed, not unusual but cannot explain the thumps unless the cables were a bit loose and the slack was being taken up by the ratchet.

  3. This is an odd question I know, bare with me it makes sense. What part of our 911 ‘s is level? At home my drive way looks level to me, at work the car park looks level to me, the oil level disagrees! Check the oil at home, it is one bar low, check at work it’s full. I put a spirit level on the door sill cover it reads differently from the outermost surface of the door aperture, I decided as this has the be part of the shell and nothing is stuck to it (as the sill cover is) then it must be the most level part of the car. Level test at home, rear down a little, level test at work seems to be level, so check oil at work? Agree or disagree?

  4. Mine when I had it had Bridgestone RE05A's on. Loved them and grip was great wet and dry, when they died I thought everyone says how good the Michelins are so I went for a set of Pilot Sports 2, they are horrible. Not progressive at all, they snap out at the limits, and they are so noisy. The Bridgestones telegraph what they are doing, the Michelins don't. Running 2005 Carrera 2S with standard 19" Classic wheels. Next time Brigestone definately. My opinion, yours may differ!

  5. Lets face it, anyone can put any tyres they like on their car, the questionable thing is, is it safe? Now, I run a full set of Michelin Pilot Sports N2's on my C2S and find them inferior in grip to the Bridgestone Potenzas that were on it. It's all personal choice. As to safety, Porsche (with due deference to you yanks love of litigation) recommend (note the word recommend) certain tyres that they have tested and certified as suitable for the 911. Whether you take on that recommendation or not is up to you, but don't go saying " those 911's are crap, it threw me off the road" if you fit Linglong specials!:eek:

  6. Well, just as a closure to my original question. I stripped the system down and found one ram (microswitch one) leaking from the swage at the bottom and the other ram had the internal spring in 3 pieces. cut the top hat section off the two rams and had a pair of tops turned down for me and had thread cut into the original ram so I can screw the top on as required. I soldered up the swage joints and replaced the O rings on both rams and bought a pair of new springs. Rebuilt rams replacing crush washers etc. Suspended twin cylinder above the level of the rams which were back into the rear lid and removed the complete plunger assembly from both "syringe bodies". Filled both bodies up to the top with CHFs 202 mixed with 10% Lucas stop leak .Crack off the unions on top of each ram (rams obviously retracted by the spring action) and let the fluid bleed out. Lock the unions up again, top up the two cylinders, insert plungers and reassemble whole pump assembly using thread lock as required. Apply power and all fine. Reassemble lid and refit to car. Fully working again and if required I can easily replace O rings in the future. Very satisfying repair! Total cost under £200, just a touch cheaper than Porsche!
