My '01 996 Cab restoration project has the Litronic option, which seems to be a fancy way of saying Xenon.

The low beam works on the passenger side only.  I replaced the pricey Xenon bulb on the driver's side, but it still does not work.  LHS low beam fuse seems ok.  Light switch seems ok. Any other ideas? Is there a left side headlight relay somewhere?

As an unrelated issue, when I pull on the turn signal stalk, both high beams work.  With the light switch turned clockwise to 'on' I push forward on the turn signal stalk to turn on the high beams (and it clicks forward and stays there) no high beam lights come on.  Am I missing something?

I had a working system, then I replaced the high beams with LED's after install no high beams, being a EE no problem, HA all head light pins not bent, checked all powers on the pins, no power on high beams, finally found the light switch was the problem, if you have a wiring diagram and a voltmeter work your way back from the headlights, or take it to a dealer/repair shop and hold on to your wallet.

Fascinating. I will check the pins in the connectors today, the issue with finding a problem is the difficulty of replacing a connector with a broken or bent pin. I am less concerned if the motors do not swivel the reflectors (I can fix that later).  Can you confirm that item 2 (which I have replaced, perhaps unnecessarily) is the low beam bulb?  Or is the low beam bulb item 4?

Just so I know I am doing this correctly, I push the turn signal column forward to turn on the high beams?  Might it be possible they are not staying on because I am testing them in daylight?  Does the car know and prevent you from turning on the high beams in the day?

Considering it was a $6500 basket case to begin with, (with another $6k in parts in it) the car works amazingly well now; its fast, quiet and handles well. Once the lights are sorted I can begin to work on the convertible top.

  2. The Alarm CPU will turn off the light in time, don't know how many sec., does your key fob led light when button pushed?  If not take it to a auto parts store most have a fob tester, if fails check battery, but could still bad I took mine swimming left key in pocket, tried rice, alcohol dip, dead. 140 bucks for new one at dealer.

At least you didn't have your  alarm CPU didn't drown its under the drivers seat in a nice low spot, like I did as a NewBee. how this helps remember driving it erases any bitches.

  3. Since yesterday was Sunday I took my cell phone and shot a fist full of  photos, reviewed them found what I thought was a bolt, then using mirrors and a magnet on a speedo cable was able to fish it out "thanks to the go fish comment" that engine killer.

    Thanks all for the help.

Hate to say this old man may ask for help when doing repair on the 911, but sure glad I didn't buy a Boxer, that was one of my concerns when getting my Bucket Car.

Only slightly a problem but will require you to drop your oil sump plate.  It should be right there.  Make sure you have the correct sealant to reinstall.

I plan on dropping the pan today, will have to check my Loctite supplies, for use by date. I retired now and have to watch all my chemicals for out of date, used some RTV it wouldn't cure checked the tube year pass the use by date, now read baby. If I don't see it will turn over engine by hand, and pray!

  5. Sorry  have no photos (forgot) !. removed the side panel found the mounting bolts except the bottom one That one took hours to figure how to get at it.

Way at the bottom there ls a hole cannot remember If here was a rubber plug or not. you can put a socket in here to loosen the bolt/nut the regulator assy which has a slot in it.

    2. lift the regulator out till you can remove the power plug via the speaker hole.

  6. Hi,

Here are my facts. I really need your advice.

I have a 2003 Carrera 996 cab. After a hard rain I discovered the following problems:

    (1) Water under the driver's seat

    (2) Key fobs light up but will not unlock doors.

    (3) Alarm works when I manually lock door with key.

    (4) After unlocking door manually with key, alarm goes off after about 10 seconds.

    (5) Car battery is strong, and I don't believe it to be my problem.

    (6) When attempting to start car, all dash lights and gauges work, but engine will not turn over.

    (7) Alarm lights on dash flash appropriately

Is the problem my central locking unit, and if so is it possible to dry it and make it work again?

If I need to replace CLU, what is approximate cost, and is this a plug and play swap, or is programming required?

This is my DD and I need to get it back on the road. My dealer is 80 miles away. I was told by them today that there was no way to start and drive the car there, and that it would have to be transported. Is this correct?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you in advance,

    Roy Parnell

Had the same problem, got a rebuild unit from the ECU Doctors in Fl.

  7. The signal to open and close windows comes from the Alarm computer under the drivers seat, Has the car been exposed to rain of late? The position of this computer is CAB problem, the next problem could be will not start, starter will not activate.

Over the years I have had to replace 2 of them due to water. The windows motors have micro computers in-them with 12V, Ground, up, down, comfort up and comfort down inputs It appears that they are not getting the comfort signals.

I sent my alarm cpu to the CPU Doctors for repair, and now they offer a waterproof encloser for it.

    I hope this helps.
