  1. First thing to point out is I do have a tiptronic transmission. There are 2 odd things, coming from an LS430 I may just be paranoid. 1. On idle in D the rev needle bounces slightly, as in it vibrates if you look close enough, almost hunting like, maybe + - 50/150 rpm? It's certainly visibile that it is moving up and down. 2. In gear driving along, lets say around 30 MPH at around 2000/2500 revs, if you very gently accelerate I feel some sort of surge/jerky/hesitation type thing going on with the engine. You've gotta be looking out for it pretty **** close to notice this. It feels like the engine and not the transmission. I've cleaned the MAF and TB and it didn't make an ounce of difference. Am I being super paranoid here?
  2. I see, hmm where does one get one of these special hose connections then? Thanks for your help BTW.
  3. 2004 996 3.6 Tip... My sump looks exactly the same as Lorens service manual post and the pelican picture.
  4. How much are we talking !??!! Seems like a good buy!
  5. I'm just confused on what the difference could possible be. In my head, both leave the same end result. Fluid dribbling out of point B regardless if you fill from A or B ?
  6. But that's a 5hp19. Why can't you just fill the MB transmission from the upper hole until the sump is full :S
  7. Where is the j tube being used though? The j tube is when you have one hole for fill and drain? Here we have 2 holes with the fill being much higher than the drain...?
  8. Im bumping this. I was under the impression that with people with the MB transmission filling it was just the normal way with no need for any adapters or J joint things. Just drain out of the red and fill at the blue at the right temp until it dribbles? Just like a normal tranny...
  9. Driven with the boot empty :( Im thinking inner tie rods or top mounts now. Everything else is so tight.
  10. Going off one of their reviews Comments: I wanted to replace the IMS bearing on my 2000 Carrera for a piece of mind. I didn't know if I had a double row or single row bearing so this product fit the ticket. I used the LN engineering toolkit for installation. I plan on replacing with the correct LNE bearing at the next clutch change. Because of the oversized spindle on the Pelican kit the LNE bearing puller will pull the original bearing out but will not remove this bearing using the spindle so a different solution is needed to remove it or reset it if it installs crooked So what do you do when you want to pull out pelicans bearing?
  11. I didn't see anything odd when on the ramp but this slight play report is from a Porsche specialist who sees nothing but Porsches everyday.... I think it's a good starting point. It was bad enough to get an advisory on an MOT.
  12. Was just going through the cars paperwork and spotted on the last service it was noted that - Outer tie rod bearings have slight play. Would this cause the issue?
  13. I get an awful metallic rattle clunk sound coming from the front, I replaced the droplinks which were knackered anyway, but still no cure. It's a very heavy rattle sound that as soon as you hit a bump makes a proper rattle , almost like you've left a toolbox open in the boot and all the sockets are loose. I've gone around witha a heavy pry bar around all the bushes and arms and I just can't find anything loose enough that would justify such a rattle!
  14. Hi, 2004 996 3.6 Tiptronic, everything is standard fitment.
  15. I get an annoying clunk from the rear. It happens when going from reverse to drive, coming to an abrubt stop, going over a pot hole. i've had a good rummage around the back, removed the motor mounts and they were still firm ish, the only bit of slight play I could find was on the rear coffin arm, the bush in the middle had a slight play in it. But this doesnt explain the knock at a standstill going from reverse to drive?
  16. I'm eying up a Porsche but just can't figure out the IMS / Bore issue sitation with this particulaor engine. Now my research has gathered the following:IMS - Single Row , should still be replaced for safety. That's fine with me.Bore scoring issue doesn't effect this car and is with the earlier 3.4s etc?The car in question is a Porsche + 1 owner car who has had it for 9 years and covered 65k.I have looked up the issues like radiations, expansion tanks etc. I am ok with all of that as I have my own 2 post ramp and Im handy with a spanner. What I need confirming the bore and ims side of things. RMS should as I figure be ok on this car aswell? Also when looking at one in person, other than the very obvious things, what should I be listening for in particular and looking for extra carefully that is very 3.6 engine specific?
