  1. Today while I was removing the passenger side valve cover, which by the way was not easy that last bottom bolt was a bear. I found this hard hose was cracked on both ends, one end went into a line on the firewall that's going into the cab and the other end was going into the head. I'm not sure what that hose does, can it be for the blend door of the AC? Do you know what it is? I don't even know what to call it to order a new line. 2008 Cayenne S
  2. Guys I have the drivers side valve cover off and I'm in the process of cleaning it. I know I need to put a small dab of threebond where the block meets the chains cover. Can I use some threebond to hold all the gaskets in place? when I took the valve cover off it looks like someone already tried to fix the leak but the gasket feel out of its slot and was pinched, they also tried to use silicone to stop a leak on the cam actuator. I read the way to install and torque the bolts is to 7.5 ft lbs in a crisscross pattern starting from the middle of the valve cover and work my way out. If anyone can offer any advice to make the job better and avoid future leaks I would love to hear it. Once I have this one don't I will move to the passenger side. 2008 Cayenne S
  3. I just pulled the new project into the garage. it has a bunch of little things that need to be fixed. but the motor and transmission seam to run and shift fine, the motor does have a rough idle, but I think that cause of the vacuum leak. so far this is list of things that I need to fix, I'm sure the list will get bigger as I start to fix stuff. today when I was driving the car into the garage I saw a bunch of alerts on the dash. 1: The vacuum line coming from the timing chain cover to the oil separator is cracked and its held together with duct tape, yes duct tape. I'm going to make a metal hard line to replace the hard plastic line. 2: Valve covers have to come off on both sides. when I smoked the intake I saw smoke coming out from the cam advance actuators, I'm thinking its not supposed to do that. I would think that should be sealed cause if air can get out so can oil, I also think the oil leak might be coming from valve covers too. 3: I'm told the AC is not working, I have not tried it yet, one thing at a time right, so I don't know what it could be, I was given a new (used) compresser. 4: The rear hatch does not open and say the hatch is open on the dash. when you push the button on the glass that does open, so its not a fuse, I'm thinking actuator. 5: Rear passenger seat does not unlock to fold down. 6: Drivers side front seat the back cover fell off. 7: The headliner is coming off. so far the fix that was used was tacks and duct tape. 8: More to come as I work on the car, fix one thing and find something else that needs fixing.
  4. Thanks Loren not sure how to do that. Unplug the fuel line and fill a glass and see how much I get in 30 seconds?
  5. Hello a friends 08 Cayenne S is having a strange problem. he tells me if he drives up to the gas statation and shuts the car off and removed the gas cap and puts gas in the car it wont start right away he needs to crank it over for a few then it starts and it will start fine from now on till he puts gas in the truck again. Here is what I'm thinking. with the cap on I guessing we have a positive pressure in the tank and that primes the low pressure pump to get fuel to the high pressure pump. when he open's the fuel cap he losses this pressure and the pump losses it prime.
  6. I saw that video do you think all that needs to come out to get to the oil pump? WOW I have a long weekend ahead of me.
  7. I was looking to see if I find a video or something how and if I can remove the oil pump with the engine still in the 911?
  8. Thanks I saw a Youtube video I dont think i'm going to try it. I need to find someone to rebuild the old one.
  9. Hi I have two 6 speed manual transmissions one makes noise but the case is fine the other one was rebuilt not to long ago but the bell housing has a pretty big crack going all the way around so I was thinking if I can swap the internals from one transmission to the other. is that something that can be done or dont even try it? I have rebuilt engines and axles but I have never tried a transmission before. Thanks
  10. I towed the 911 to my house and I was able to drive it. This is what I noticed as you are taking off from a stop and slowly moving off from a dead stop you feel the noise and the 911 pulses its like the clutch has a high spot and when it hits it you hear the noise and the car pulsates forward. I have the car up on the lift and I will be dropping the transmission tomorrow.
  11. thanks I agree I have never seen a thrust bearing making noise. I'm towing the 911 to my house for me to look at it and see what the noise can be. I will look into the electronic ear and see who around here has one. thanks again.
  12. By the way this is not my car but my friends car I sold my 996 a few years back. I have been working on his car for years but I moved and I'm not close to work on it any more, but I going to make the 6 hour trip to bring his car to my house so I can see whats going on it it. this is what he told me. (My friend) It all started with a noise then the car would not move. I was told it was the transmission I bought a rebuilt one, had it put in then the car would still not move then I was told it was the pressure plate then a new pressure plate was installed then a new clutch was put in. (at this point the car moved but made noise) then I was told the flywheel was bad I replaced that when I took it in for a new flywheel the transmission bell housing had a crack that when all the way around. the cracked had the transmission removed and the bell housing welded and reinstalled. Now when you are driving and you accelerate you hear a clicking sound coming from the back I was told that its the thrust bushing on the crank they are saying I need to rebuilt the motor. (Me) I dont know how a bad thrust washer will cause the tick I can see a bad shaft or ring gear or transmission. He asked is they checked the endplay when the transmission was out and they said no. what I plan to do is first check end play then remove the transmission, clutch, and flywheel and measure the endplay. what do you think it could be? can it be crank end play? what should the endplay be i'm going to put on my dial indicator and see what it marks. I have not driven the car or heard the noise yet. Sorry for the long story.
  13. I changed the fluid a month or two ago when I was doing my yearly maintenance. thanks for the link.
  14. I replaced the drivers side a few years ago with a used one I bought off e-bay now the passenger one is doing the same thing. thanks for the links.
  15. well doing more testing yesterday I found it was not the CV shaft as I thought. here is what I see now. I jacked up the rear and locked one tire and put the car in gear and moved the other tire back and forth. I heard the clicking sound in the lower gears but not he higher gears. I'm guessing I need a new trans. I attached two sound files I hope you can hear the clicking on the first gear clip on the second clip what you hear is the axle play which is normal. 20180416_182825.3gp 20180416_183021.3gp
  16. the problem I'm having is some time I need to pull the handle a few times to open the door. Thanks I guess I will have to suck it up and order the new locks.
  17. I have been having a problem with drivers door lock for a while and now the passenger side is acting up so I want to replace them both but looking online they want $300 each but looking around I see the VW one looks the same and its they are $40 each. Has anyone tried this before or do you have a suggestion?
  18. The car has started doing this to me while I drive. Lets say I get up to 25mph when I get off the throttle I hear a click when you get back on again it clicks again. I'm not talking about stomping on the gas just a slight touch of the throttle get back up to 25. I don't hear it at highway speeds I think but that could be because of road noise or me go so fast that the noise get left behind. I did find a little play from the drivers side half shaft between the shaft and CV Joint bolted to the axle. Any ideas what it can be? Miles 93547 Manual 6 speed.
  19. my friend this weekend was installing a 2din radio and after he has the new radio in the car the car wont start it wont even turn over (Crank) the lights on the car do turn on. I read about a little wire on the radio that needs to be cut for the alarm what else can it be?
  20. I drove it to work this morning and I think it's OK now. I think it needed some RPMs. I will see again when I get home tonight. I hope it's OK. Thanks JFP
  21. i just changed my water pump tonight and when I started the car i heard clicking from both sides of the engine. It has been sitting for a month or so, I have started over the month but it was only to move it a few feet. can it be that is needs some highway miles or can it be something bigger?
  22. i have been working on the car today and as you said I have power on one leg (red blue wire) I see 13.7 volts so I know that is good. I ran 12 volt power to the valve and I hear and see it move so Im guessing its working. with your idea I think I can use a noid light set to see if I see power pulse on it. I just need to buy a new set Amazon here I come. I ran 12 volt power to the purge valve in the back and as soon as i give it power the engine shuts off. is this normal? Now if someone can get me a wiring diagram so I can test at the dme and see if I have a short or a bad DME.
  23. thanks for all the help. Now I have to work on my 996. I'm replacing both window regulators.
  24. I placed the order for it in September, my friends has the one for the Boxster. I wonder if it's the same book with a few little changes for the 911 996.
  25. I just broke the same little clip on mine this weekend, the strang thing is I have taken apart my friends 996 a few time and never had a problem with his. Oh well.
