  1. 2002 C4 cab with 47,500; still a pup compared to some of the miles others are reporting. I'm a new owner, since 44K. I use it as a daily driver and it's really a pleasure to just get in and drive to work/home everyday. At some point I expect I'll get into a 997.2 but patient for the "right car." My C4 drives like new and delivers power as I'd expect. I baby it a bit limiting my RPM to 6K (maybe 6,500 on the track). I get ~20 mpg on my daily commute, and that's with some full throttle acceleration in the mix (who can resist?). I tracked the car once so far. What a blast; the car just came alive under track conditions. The braking zone and turn-in were exciting; the C4 seemed to let me set the chassis quick and me get to maintenance throttle early. The exhaust notes from apex off were just beautiful and opening the wheel on exit let me get the throttle down hard without any issue. I left with a whole new respect for my Porsche. Can't wait to get on the track again.
  2. Speed cost money, how fast do you want to go. To a point, I expect 991 buyers will rationalize incremental performance improvements as justification for pricing increase ... and don't we all just want to go faster. However, if price becomes even a moderate deterrent to new car purchases than 997 owners should benefit in either slower depreciation or even a bottoming out. My thoughts anyway.
  3. I'm wondering if the 991 acceptance, or not, will have more of an affect on the 997 pricing? Thoughts?
  4. A bit delayed but thank you for the added insights and perspective ... interestingly you and Mijostyn guide me to the 19" wheels ... each with slightly differing arguments which absolutely affirms I will steer clear of 20's, unless (or until) I can start shopping for a 991 designed for that size. thanks again to all, this is a great place to learn about these cars.
  5. wow, different perspective and very specific which gives me a lot of confidence in your answer. I hadn't really considered the sidewall thickness in a full context; car geometry and wheel preservation trump looks in my book. I think I'll continue to shop for something with 19" wheels then. I live in the Seattle area, are you aware of a "good tech" near me? Thank you for the thoughtful reply. Gordon
  6. Hoping to get some help on my next Porsche buy. I'm driving a 2002 C4S Cab now but ready to get into a 997.2. I really like the look of the C4 with it's wider rear fender flare so likely to go C4. Also want the HP and braking on the S so narrowing to a C4S. As I'm shopping I've come across a really nice C4S, white, full black leather with silver stitching and 20" wheels. The wheels seem to fill the wheel wells nicely and completes what is a sharp and fairly distinctive look. However, I recall a Sharkwerks post that pointed to the 997.2 suspension being better tuned for 19" wheels. I will track the car but not race it. Thoughts? Thanks, Gordon
  7. I can see the whole assemble called out as item 14. But when I drill in to order they show both an R or G in front of the same part number ... pictures look identical. http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-parts/hardparts.php?dir=996-99-05&section=904-21
  8. I used Wolfgang Uber Wheel Cleaner I purchased on-line from AutoGeek.com. I find this to be a very good product for cleaning brake dust, my wheels really "pop." To the extent you can believe their labeling, it's an environmentally friendly product as well.
