  1. Hi Popolou Ah OK! I see what you mean...Thanks for the clarification. So I guess my best and safest option will be to call GIAC and give then my VIN so that they can confirm the sofware was installed, otherwise it seems that your solution may prove effective but too risky. Again thanks for your expertise Cheers Porschester
  2. Hi DelbertW........and hi to London Proper :D Waow 18000 miles without any problems is definitely reassuring. I checked DMS site, and indeed they look like a professional company, but I was little surprised to see no chip applications for the 997 series. I just installed the GIAC software, the company has the reputation to have one of the best chip applications software for Porsche... http://www.giacusa.com/about.php keep us updated on your fuel starvation situation Cheers Porschester
  3. Hi Phillipj....Thanks for sharing with me your experience with the Plenum. It seems like you are quite happy, and felt the difference. After giving much thinking about it, I decided to go ahead and order myself one via the Porsche dealer, they extended the price of $816...definitely less than the $995 advertised on the RSS site. So your 996 since installing the Plenum has performed and felt a little better at 4500-6500 rpm?? No engine light?? or loss of low end torque or anything like that...!! You can confirm that the money you spent was worth the change??? Was it the RSS plenum you installed or another one?? Thanks Again for your feedback Cheers Porschester
  4. Well today I actually spoke with Rich, the Porsche head mechanic at "The Collection" and the one who worked on my car and uploaded the software. I asked him the question, and he said that I could call GIAC, give them my car's VIN number and they would be able to tell me that the car was flashed and uploaded with their software. I will proceed with this suggestion and confirm....that way if this option indeed works, would allow anyone in the future to get confirmation with a simple phone call and VIN verification.....Nothing better than peace of mind when it comes to our Porsches :D Cheers Porschester
  5. Thanks Dave for your input......If we saw an effective 10rwhp increase with the 3.6L, can we assume that increase in rwhp with my 3.8L 997S would be more?...Also dave do you think that adding the Plenum to current mods I already have (TUBI, X51 intake and GIAC) will bring a difference and improvment in acceleration?? Cheers Porschester
  6. Thank you very much Popolou....."The Collection" which is the biggest Porsche Dealer in Miami is the one who actually did the chipping, the TUBI and X51 exhaust on my 997, so I guess I would not be shooting myself in the foot if I ask them to test the content of the DME, but Popolou, am I looking for the CRC checkout??? and anyway what is the CRC??....and would that then assure me that the GIAC software was loaded??.....its not that I dont trust them, but for paying $880 on a GIAC software I havnt witnessed installed, I just want to find a way to make sure :lightbulb: Thanks for your feedback: :) Cheers Porschester
  7. Dont exactely know what may have caused your problem, as this sounds quite serious and unfortunate, but what Chip did you load for the 30bhp gain?? Did the dealer do it, and what kind of assurance or confirmation were you given that the car was indeed chipped?? Cheers Porschester
  8. Hi once again everyone.......and.... :welcome: I am RE-opening the topic to anyone that could educate US on the "PLENUM". We all may have different opinions about what we think of the PLENUM but the goal should be to assess and figure out if it is a Modification worth our effort and money, while safe enough to to keep the reliability and integrity of our Porsches. It has been a hot topic lately and few people have posted their opinion on 6speedonline. As RennTech subscribers who like to come to this forum to learn, share and interact between us, lets build on this topic so that we could get to the bottom of it, and reach a balanced verdict of what the PLENUM can or can not achieve in our "bottom line" search for additional horses. What could we, us, owners of 997 and 997S realistically expect from the RSS PLENUM once we put the $995 for the relatively small iron cast piece. The company Roadsportsupply.com which I talked to, claims 24HP/22TQ on the 997 and 27HP/25TQ on the 997 S. If indeed anyone has seen and felt that kind of difference before and after the PLENUM was installed beyond the benefit of the doubt I certainly will put one. Others put the increase more in the 10-11HP. During my telephone conversation with Roadsportsupply they even claimed that their figures were conservative!!! Lets make Renntech, the premier forum for the PLENUM debate. If we conclude it is worth it, it could be Bang for Dollar, one of the best and easiest mod add on yet. I am including the link that states the HP/TQ increase of the different PLENUMS: http://roadsportsupply.com/IPD_Plenums_Porsche.html Thanks in advance for sharing any mentoring, and advice. :lightbulb: Cheers :renntech: Porschester
  9. I agree with DelbertW 100%.....he said it all.......now go enjoy , and have fun finding the right Porsche for you......Let us know what you got, when you get the keys :D Cheers Porschester
  10. But I mean when you upload a new software or even update the current one into a computer, it always lives the trace and the confirmation of the newer version....why wouldn't be any way to plug into your car and tell if the GIAC software has indeed taken place???.....
  11. I recently added couple modifications to my 997 c4s, including a TUBI exhaust, an X51 intake, and a GIAC flash software. The car was at "The Collection" in Miami. Upon taking back the Carrera, I could see the X51 intake, the TUBI, but I was wondering... HOW CAN I BE 100% SURE THAT THE GIAC CHIP WAS LOADED??? I paid $885, and so I would appreciate if anyone could tell me how to make sure that GIAC software has been installed on my car. When I asked Nicholas at the motorsport department he said that there is no way, and that I should just trust their word...and that I would feel the difference....yeah but it could be the other mods!!....He said that GIAC does not give any confirmation once it is installed....I did find this a little strange..... Any expertise, knowledge on this matter or advice would be greatly appreciated.... Sincerely Porschester
  12. 355 HP to be precise :D Yeah the S.....is SSSSSSSSuperb........and yes SSSSSSStick all the way...1 thru 6th under the palm of your hand.... Cheers Porschester....
  13. Thanks for the unique europipe exhaust presentation, it seems like it is a system well worth the money. Just a few days ago, I had to choose which exhaust system to implement on my 997 C4S, and after looking at several I decided to go for TUBI, the fitment is impeccable, the sound amazing, and the power...well I also had the car chipped with GIAC....but TUBI claims 7-11 horses if I am not mistaken.....regadless I think that the welding quality and sound of TUBI alone, made me a beleiver.... Cheers Porschester
  14. Greetings Chromedome, I appreciate people who wants to make couple classy body and engines mods with over doing it. I think that we should all know when to draw the line and not over alter these amazing machine. Looks like you are making just the right moves. I have tried to come up with my own formula and so far I am satisfied with results. As for the Grey/Silver Porsche Emblem it does look amazing on the car and it s OEM, I dont know which other places carry it, but you can always call "The Collection" in Miami and ask for Nicholas Anding @ 305-444-1111, tell him that "Zack The Man" your favorite customer :D reffered you and he will give you a little discount and ship the emblem to you...its super easy to install and well worth it...definitely a classy and autobahn looking feel...... Hope that helped....and let me what you think once you get the silver emblem installed Cheers Porschester........Miami Beach and NYC
  15. I sincerely agree with 997,Esq.......The manual transmition will make you so much more connected with your Porsche. The shifting is a unique part of the experience when driving such a marvelous car. Shop around, and you will find what you want. A huge percentage of old Porsche are still running as smooth as new, so personaly an 04-05-06 with fair mileage is still a cub. Good Luck Porschester
  16. These are couple graphs I found online about the RSS plenum for a Cayman S showing dyno tests:
  17. Hi Nick. I dont know where you live, but my best advice would be for you to visit a cerified used/new porsche dealer and further learn about the advantages of a certified Porsche. In essence the dealer shows, that the car has been inspected extensively, and that all mechanical, and electric conponents have positively passed the inspection. Also since you mentioned an 05-06 or 07, unless the car has a lot of miles, I beleive it should still be covered under the warranty. After that you can always purchase an extended bumper to bumper warranty and sleep peacefully. So in summary, go visit your nearest Porsche dealer and keep us updated. Cheers Porschester
  18. Hey Truculent!! I opened this forum topic to have constructive and intelligent comments without the need to be over reactive. You mentioned about no need to be condescending, but yet you made the unecessary comments, and I quote "Those Stupid Germans...." Please be conscientious that some of the readers may be offended, by such lack of etiquette. I am not from Germany, but being from Europe, I did found you verbadum a little out of context, and baseless, specially when indeed the Germans are behind the best engineered vehicles in the world, one of them being PORSCHE. You are welcome to share your input and opinions, but please stay in line with everyones wish to keep Renntech a fun and respectful forum for those who want to share and learn more about their passion for the Porsche German Car. Plenum or no Plenum...who cares, we're just here to be constructive and interact while possibly having different opinions on what is worth and what's not. Sincerely Porschester
  19. Sorry....pertaining to your inlet question, its funny but yes visually on this pix the inlet on the right, seems bigger, but in reality Porsche designed the X51 with the right inlet slightly smaller. Since the distance between the right and left part of the X51 intake is different, this was done to even out the air distribution. When we spoke to the Porsche specialist, he said that Porsche always have a reason and understand why they do what they do. But later I will post some more Pix.
  20. Well.......Neil's ears must have been burning......because yesterday after much conversation with the head of Motorsport at the collection and EVO, I decided to go ahead and order the headers. They should arrive in couple of days and installed by next week. Rich, the only guy allowed to work on my car is on vacation, so I have to wait until he comes back. Neil, do you approve of the EVO headers? I heard that they were amazing and proven....or do you think the X51 headers would be better??....even the collection suggested the EVO........I am including a picture of the EVO's.
  21. Hi! You will definitely enjoy jumping from the M3 club to the Porsche club of fortunate drivers. I also owned an M3, but to me Porsche is Porsche and will always Porsche. I currently drive a 2006 C4S, and used to have a 996 C4, so I experienced both the S and non S. Both versions were and are amazing, it is a matter of preference. Indeed the S is slighly more aggressive, but then again even a regular carrera will give you the thrill with or without the top down. Now, as for stick over non stick, stick is the way to go without any doubt. Porsche are built and meant to be driven with a stick...that is when you will feel trully in connection with the car. If I was you, I would buy one from a reputable dealer, and either buy or negociate a certification in the deal, it will give you peace of mind, and guarentee in case of eventual issues. Indeed Porsche are very reliable and brute cars that can be abused and driven hard, but unless you know exactely who and how the car was driven, I would prefer to go to a Porsche certified dealer. It may cost you a few dollars more, but in the long run, it would be much safer. Hope my two cents will help you to make a sound decision, but definitely the best was convincing yourself to get a Porsche... Good Luck Porschester
  22. Hi again everyone.......I am opening this new topic to anyone that could educate me on the "PLENUM". I read on couple occasions, people mentioning that the "Plenum" made a difference in power. Most often it is described as the RSS Plenum. Could you please explain what it is, and if it can safely be part of a performance upgrade endeavor. Thanks in advance for sharing any mentoring, and advice. Cheers Porschester
  23. Well I finally got to take my completed modification project to the road. I was very excited and anticipating my first drive with the re-tuned car. It did not take long for me to realize that indeed the GIAC ECU software was the seal for the deal.....Not cheap but worth it! At the first acceleration, I noticed the car being more linear in its push towards the next gear, and as I was getting ready to shift to second, that's when the magic of my new short shift made its debut.....Its a matter of preference, but I loved the shorter shifting ratios. The Porsche X51 intake looks and fits amazingly in the car. The car sounded louder, but without the need of carrying a box of aspirin in the glove compartment.... :P I think there might even be some room for added sound quality that would eventually come with a set top notch headers. As I came on I95, going from one gear up to the next, and with my window down, I could not wait for the first curve, and see how much difference the new springs and lowering the car made......and what a difference it was!! Not thinking this was doable, the car was planted like a high speed train on rails....100+ miles on the odo came quickly, and as the car felt quite confident in its new suit, it asked for more.....I had to be responsible! One of the things I noticed, is that at higer than average accelerations and speed, I could hear a little more the little rocks, and gravel on the road....Was it road condition?? Was it because the car is now lower, and therefore the gravel has less clearance?? Perhaps anyone could share their thoughts!! All in all, this has been a very pleasant choice, and I am satisfied with the outcome. The car feels more responsive, and does it with more refined singing , and even better grip and stability. The spacers look very nice and give an added aggressive feel without looking like a drag racing car. The mod. project was not the cheapest, yet not the most expensive one. Next step would be a supercharger, but then again I made it clear that I was in search of performance and body upgrade without compromising the driveability or opening myself to possible mechanical headaches....Personaly, I think that I have achieved the perfect balance, one last additional upgrade might be headers, but nothing more. Any urge for more thrill and speed, and I would be putting a deposit on a 997 Turbo Cab.....in the mean time I will enjoy my 997 version 2.0 :D Feel free to add any comments, advice or feedback, and thanks for staying in tune. I am including couple new pix, with more to come later. Cheers.
