Thank you so much RFM. I was so convinced that the noise was coming from the speakers that I didn't consider any other possible solutions. As you so kindly suggested, it was wind noise from windshield gasket. Gasket replaced and noise gone. Again I thank you much.

I have disabled the activation option but to no avail. I'm at a loss. Any suggestions welcome. Thank you.

I have a 2003 996 carrera cabrio. Recently it has developed a rattle or possibly a warning buzzer at exactly 60 mph. Could this be related to the limiter setting? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance
Roy Parnell.

I checked the things you suggested but didn't find any of the problems you mentioned. Time for 130k service so guess I'll have to suck it up and visit the dealership. Thanks for taking the time to help.

Thank you for your excellent questions. Oil is 0W-40, fully synthetic. I will check your other suggestions. I truly appreciate your time and willingness to help. I'll update the answers to your other suggestions. Again, I thank you for your help.

Hi all,
I have noticed that after my last service at the dealer the engine runs about 8 degrees warmer (about 220f) and the rear fan runs for extended periods after I shut the engine off. The oil pressure also seems to be lower than it was before the service, which included oil change, coolant flush, and coolant replacement. Any ideas on why this might be happening would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi all. Was driving my 2003 996 cab 2 days ago. I heard a strange noise from the rear and pulled over. I smelled a burning type odor and a small amount of white smoke was coming from the trunk vents. Since that time the a/c is not producing cold air. Fan still produces plenty of air, but it isn't cold. Am I looking at a blown compressor here, or are there other possibilities? It gets rather warm in South Carolina, and sometimes rather than dropping the top I use the a/c. Any input from any of you would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance,

Stealer quoted me $1400 for new Porsche regulator and installation. Having read this forum and doing research, I decided to bite the bullet and have them do the job. I am not a wealthy man, but the last thing I need right now is one more PIA. I have learned over the years that there are some things I can do to save money, and some things I have to throw in the towel and pay the piper. This is my daily driver, and I want it back on the road. I have very little free time, unfortunately not enough to make this a DIY for me. I have an appointment with dealer on April 30. They will provide a loaner for me, as I live 70 miles away from them. Either I roll with the big dogs or stay on the porch. Guess in this instance I will be with the big dogs.

Thank you all for taking the time to try to help me. It really sounds like it's beyond the scope of my ability and patience. Do any of you have an estimate on what the stealer would charge for doing this job?
Again, I thank you for your time and help

Hello all,
Does anyone know where I can find a video or instructions for replacement for 2003 carrera 996 cabrio right rear window regulator? Also any sources for rebuilt or used regulator would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your knowledge.

I still can't locate the straps despite the diagram you kindly provided. I thank you for your efforts.

Thank you JTT. That looks exactly like my problem. So there is a strap that should run from side to side? And the attachment point is about where the cable leaves the track? What exactly does the strap attach to? I'm very sorry for bugging you about all this, and want you to know that I appreciate you time and expertise more than you can imagine.
Thank you,
Roy Parnell

Thanks but the link didn't work.

Thanks. How far back from header is the strap?

Hi all. I need help with the top on my 2003 996 carrera. The driver's side seals perfectly, but there is a gap on the passenger side. It appears that the cable does not seat properly in the plastic groove. It is as if the cable is too short. I will attempt to attach a pic. Thank you in advance for any advice.

I replaced driver side window mechanism on my 2003 996 cab without disconnecting battery. Just disconnected airbag after removing door panel. Important to not have key in ignition when airbag is disconnected. It really is a diy. If I can do it anyone can.Found the answer in a post from Maurice (1schoir) dated Oct 10, 13, in a thread titled Window drop passenger side.
As Loren has always said, "the search engine is your friend."
Question: Am I correct that to get the door panel off the battery must be disconnected to avoid an airbag issue?
Maurice, if your still willing, a DIY would be great. My good inde would likely be able to help me with this.
I'd like to avoid a visit to the closest Stealership which is about 160 miles away in Mill Valley, CA.
Cheers,

I have a 2003 996 cab with 114k miles. The clutch has begun to slip if I drive with any gusto. I can granny it around without slippage. Am I looking at a clutch replacement? If so, any estimates on total cost? I can turn a wrench but no way do I have the time or skill to tackle something of this magnitude. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thank you.

My 2003 Carrera cab has 116,000 miles. Major problems were water pump failure and recent AOS failure. I have repaired a few lesser problems including driver side window lift and driver side top hydraulic cylinder.Hey guys 13,457 miles and going strong!! Had the car now for three years love it!!

My Pcar is a 2003 996 cab. Recent AOS failure required trip to the dealer. AOS was replaced and 10K service done (car currently has 110K miles on the clock). I picked the car up a week ago. Ever since, I have noticed a difference in the clutch pedal. Currently requires less force to depress pedal. When starting from a standstill, shift from neutral to first or reverse not smooth, as if the clutch isn't fully disengaged. Any thoughts you might have concerning possible cause gratefully welcome. Anything I might be able to check also welcome. Finally, anything that dealer might have inadvertently done capable of causing these problems? Thank you in advance. Car still has original clutch and IMS.

I have read that after flushing coolant system or losing and replacing all the coolant the 996 engine can develop air pockets which result in overheating in those areas of the engine. The 3.6 apparently doesn't likke being run hot.

Thank you for your kind comments. Glad to see that I'm not the only Porsche owner who is unwilling on unable to tackle a repair job on my ride. To soothe my hurt feelings I fixed my dad's lawnmower today. Lol

I have a 2003 996 cab. AOS found to be cracked. Due to time constraints and lack of faith in my ability to do replacement, I chose to let dealer do the job. $1800 was the cost of the job. I feel ashamed that I did not tackle this myself, and weep for my depleted bank account. Bravo to any and all who did this job themselves. I'm sure they are both wiser and wealthier than me.

I have a 2003 996 cab. Last night the low coolant light flashed. I found the coolant level to be low so I topped it I went for a short drive this morning. After parking the car I found a silver dollar sized fluid mark on my driveway. It is located at roughly the rear of the rear driver's side tire, about 12 inches toward the passenger side. Any ideas on the source of this leak would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance..
