Stealer quoted me $1400 for new Porsche regulator and installation. Having read this forum and doing research, I decided to bite the bullet and have them do the job. I am not a wealthy man, but the last thing I need right now is one more PIA. I have learned over the years that there are some things I can do to save money, and some things I have to throw in the towel and pay the piper. This is my daily driver, and I want it back on the road. I have very little free time, unfortunately not enough to make this a DIY for me. I have an appointment with dealer on April 30. They will provide a loaner for me, as I live 70 miles away from them. Either I roll with the big dogs or stay on the porch. Guess in this instance I will be with the big dogs.
Thank you all for taking the time to try to help me. It really sounds like it's beyond the scope of my ability and patience. Do any of you have an estimate on what the stealer would charge for doing this job? Again, I thank you for your time and help Roy P

Thank you JTT. That looks exactly like my problem. So there is a strap that should run from side to side? And the attachment point is about where the cable leaves the track? What exactly does the strap attach to? I'm very sorry for bugging you about all this, and want you to know that I appreciate you time and expertise more than you can imagine. Thank you, Roy Parnell

The driver's side seals perfectly, but there is a gap on the passenger side. It appears that the cable does not seat properly in the plastic groove. It is as if the cable is too short. I will attempt to attach a pic. Thank you in advance for any advice.

Just disconnected airbag after removing door panel. Important to not have key in ignition when airbag is disconnected. It really is a diy. If I can do it anyone can. I can granny it around without slippage. Am I looking at a clutch replacement? If so, any estimates on total cost? My Pcar is a 2003 996 cab. Recent AOS failure required trip to the dealer. AOS was replaced and 10K service done (car currently has 110K miles on the clock). I picked the car up a week ago. Ever since, I have noticed a difference in the clutch pedal. Currently requires less force to depress pedal. When starting from a standstill, shift from neutral to first or reverse not smooth, as if the clutch isn't fully disengaged. Any thoughts you might have concerning possible cause gratefully welcome. Anything I might be able to check also welcome. Finally, anything that dealer might have inadvertently done capable of causing these problems? Thank you in advance. Car still has original clutch and IMS.
royp4 replied to Hobbes's topic in 996 Series (Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, Targa)I have read that after flushing coolant system or losing and replacing all the coolant the 996 engine can develop air pockets which result in overheating in those areas of the engine. Thank you for your kind comments. Glad to see that I'm not the only Porsche owner who is unwilling on unable to tackle a repair job on my ride. To soothe my hurt feelings I fixed my dad's lawnmower today. Lol
I have a 2003 996 cab. AOS found to be cracked. Due to time constraints and lack of faith in my ability to do replacement, I chose to let dealer do the job. $1800 was the cost of the job. I feel ashamed that I did not tackle this myself, and weep for my depleted bank account. Bravo to any and all who did this job themselves. I'm sure they are both wiser and wealthier than me.
