The red lights do not appear to be aftermarket, but a part of the standard guage cluster

Yes JFP, there are 2 unlabeled red round lights, one just below the voltmeter, the other just below the oil pressure guage. When starting the engine, both lights come on. The one on the left side immediately switches off, but the one on the right blinks about 3 times before extinguishing. I don't know if these lights are related to the gauges above them or have some other purpose. I have also noticed a low volume chime unrelated to the blinking light. I recently had the ignition switch replaced and wonder if this could be a factor, At any rate, thank you for your time and interest. I am baffled and open to any information you can provide. 

Hi all, I have noticed two small red lights just below the instrument cluster of my 2003 996 Carrera. There is one on the left and one on the right. The right side one blinks when I start the car but I have no idea what it means. Probably a dumb question, as I have asked quite a few previously. I downloaded a pdf of the dash cluster but it doesn't show these lights. Can anyone help me please? Thanks in advance.

According to the dealer, it is the water pump, which I kind of suspected. Back in the late 80s I had a 944 and experienced 2 water pump failures with it. Just part of the whole ownership experience I guess. I still love the 996 and can't wait to get it back. Nothing I have driven has compared to the performance of the 996.

Does "not a good thing" mean engine damage, expensive repair, or something else? I understand why a water pump would be expensive, but could someone explain why a leaking coolant fill cap or leaking surge tank are bad news? Please forgive my ignorance on this subject. Thank you

I have a 2003 996 Carrera cab.  When I got to work this morning I noticed coolant flowing from rear of engine compartment. The temp gauge never peaked, and none of the idiot lights came on. Any ideas on what this problem is would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

I am happy to report that my 03 cab was the recipient of a miracle healing. No more check engine light, and it runs like a scalded cat. However, I have discovered that the rear passenger carpet is quite wet. We have had a great deal of rain in the last week. Any ideas on where the leak might be coming from? I see no obvious source. As always, thank you for your continued patience and expertise.

I suspect coil packs are the problem. Is there a code fault reader other than Durametric that can confirm this? Anyone know if AutoZone or Advance Auto will check fault codes, and will their equipment confirm a cracked coil pack? Again, I thank you for any help.

I live in Cheraw, South Carolina. I need someone with a Durametric nearby willing to let me read error codes. I will come to you. Check engine light just came on. I am willing to pay you for your kindness. Thank you.

I have a situation with my 2003 996 Carrera. At exactly 2000 rpm, the oil pressure gauge fluctuates between 3 and 4 bars. At any other rpm this does not occur. Could it be a gauge or sending unit problem? I'm baffled by this and any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

JFP I'm afraid you're right but don't really want to believe it. I think I'm going to continue driving and be alert for any further anomalies. Thank you for your input.

Clutch is original and just turned 80,000 miles. No sign of slippage or noise. Only occurrence is the temporary change in pedal force seen only after winding engine to 6000 rpm or so. Perplexing!

Clutch and brake systems flushed and refilled 2/9/15 by dealership. I had noticed this occurrence both before and after the service. Just wonder if I should be concerned, and trying to understand what could cause this. Thank you for your time.

This is a rather strange occurrence. I have a 2003 Carrera Cabrio 996. After normal acceleration, the clutch pedal requires what I consider to be normal effort to depress. After running up to 6000 rpm when accelerating, the clutch pedal effort decreases somewhat. I have not detected any sign of clutch slippage or any other abnormality. My question is whether this is common, and whether it is an indicator of some undetected problem. I failed to mention that after a few minutes the pedal effort reverts to normal. Thank you in advance for any advice on this baffling occurrence.

03 Carrera Cab, Guards Red with black top and black leather interior. I love this car and am learning to do small repairs myself in order to somewhat lower the cost of ownership. I've had the car for 18 months and still love it. I have found the knowledge of renntech members to be invaluable. I dreamed of owning a 911 since the mid 80s when I had a 944. I rate the Carrera as 9/10. I have a couple of rattles I haven't been able to fix yet which keeps me from giving it a 10/10. 

It was a burned out bulb which I was able to replace in about 10 minutes. Thank you all for your willingness to help.

Tonight I noticed that the left turn signal indicator is blinking rapidly when I switch left turn signal on. This is happening on my 03 996 cab. Does anyone know what this rapid blinking indicates? Thank you in advance.

Hi, The cupholder in my 2003 996 cab has broken. Does anyone know where I might find a used or refurbished replacement cupholder. Or at last resort a new replacement. Also anyone know where I can find diy on replacement process?  Thank you in advance.
