  1. When you push the dash lock button, does the red light illuminate? FYI- you can have the dealer program your doors to lock automatically...based on either speed (<5 mph) or when the key is put into the ignition.

No light at all, I;m taking the car in for some service. I'm going to have them change the lock as you suggested

  2. I have a 2005 987, yesterday I got in my car and after starting the engine I tried to lock the doors using the dash button. It would't lock. then we I got to my destination and tried to set my alarm and lock the doors it wouldn't work. I thought it might be my battery getting low and put it on the charger. Any ideas?

  3. PCM is not out in Japan, so Porsche dealers routinely install 3rd party navigation units. I find the new HDD Pioneer unit with the XM NavTraffic intriguing.

Has anyone heard of replacing the head unit with a 3rd party 2DIN Nav for the US 987? Either the base, plus, or the BOSE version? I'd imagine you'd have to forget the BOSE external power amps and the factory CD changer because they use MOST? Or am I completely wrong?

I don't have a 987 yet, but am thinking of options.

    Thanks in advance!

I have an Eclipse nav unit in my 05 987. One issue is there is no Vehical Speed Sensor connection in the car. Since it's all upgraded wireing kit the traditional VSS connections will not work. There is a VSS kit you can buy from Alpine as a work around.

  4. We need to get some members that really know their electronics (like Sandy) to have a look at the schematics - because I don't see a way. All the key connections are on the fiber optic bus now - so ether the 3rd party Nav providers need to catch up or one of local electronic genius's needs to help us out here.

Well I found an answer. Alpine makes a Vehical Speed Sensor that can be mounted on a wheel and plugged into the reciever. Part number alpnvek300. I'm trying to get a quote on the part and cost of installation.

  5. I don't think so. On a MY05 987 all of that stuff is on the MOST/CAN fiber optic network. I don't see an external speed signal anymore in the schematics.

I'm sorry, I didn't realise it was a 987, but his username would have given me a clue, hey?

Any ideas? Would the dealership have an option? Or is this a lost cause?
