  1. I need to remove the passenger side door storage lid. Does anyone know how to do it? Thanks
  2. Here's a link to Imagine Auto's DIY http://www.turbo911.com/showthread.php?t=287
  3. Thanks Beecher -- I'm thinking about doing the GIAC flash in the future, but I need to get new FR6 spark plugs and new diverter valves first.
  4. I have an '01 996tt Tip, and I've been considering getting an ECU flash, so I've been trying to learn what I can. I recall reading somewhere that for the non-X50 996tt, I should see transient peak boost at 0.8 bar, and sustained boost at 0.6 bar (under load). So I set out to see what my peak boost is by going to manual mode in 4th gear on a 20% upgrade hill and going WOT at 45mph. I saw 1.0 bar for just a moment, then it went down to 0.8 bar until I slowed down (about 80mph). When I did the same thing in 5th gear, I saw 0.8 bar for a brief moment, then it went to 0.6 bar and stayed there. From what I understand, this doesn't seem right (the 1.0 bar). The car runs fine, no CELs, no strange sounds. I bought it 10/05 as a CPO from a dealer in IL, and I believe it is completely stock (original FR5 spark plugs and stock DV's). It feels a bit "laggy" at low rpms, but I think it might just be the higher gearing of the 5-sp Tip. I don't feel the boost really come on until about 3,500-4,000 rpms. So ... is this normal? Or does it sound like someting is not quite right, and what might it be? I would appreciate any help. Thanks.
  5. I would say you have the older heat range 5 unless they have been changed. Thanks, Loren. I appreciate the information. I think I'll have to wait until it's time to change the plugs before thinking about the ECU upgrade.
  6. I have an '01 996tt, and have been thinking about getting an ECU performance flash. I was told that the OEM FR5 spark plugs are not very good, and that I should the FR6's (OEM on the '02 and later models, as I understand it) before getting the ECU flash. My question is this: my '01 car is a 6/01 build date, and was there a distinct model year cutoff for the switch of spark plugs, or could it have been a running change affecting my later MY '01 build (so that I might have the FR6's and not the FR5's)? Is there anyway to tell from looking at /under the engine?
  7. Izzy -- Thanks for the helpful advice, and for the links to the prior threads. I'll give it a try tonight.
  8. I just noticed that the passenger side vanity mirror light in the sun visor doesn't turn off when the lid is closed. The driver's side light turns off when the lid is about halfway down, but the passenger side light does not (and I can see light shining through the edges of the lid when fully closed). Does anybody know if there is some easy fix for this (some internal switch that I could look for/fix?)? I would like to take the mirror/light assembly out to look at (to see if there is a switch I can fix), but I'm concerned that I may break it if I try to pop it out (I did read the DIY on removing the airbag warning decals, but it was not explicit on how to remove the light assembly). What is the proper way to remove the light/mirror assembly without breaking it? I use a battery maintainer, so I think I'm protected against this light draining the battery (and the charging light on the maintainer does go out after a few hours of being plugged in). Thanks.
  9. I have a '01 996 with wood door handle/storage bin trim. During driving, there is an intermittent buzzing sound from the passenger door panel (and less so from the driver's side) that I can stop if I push down on the portion of wood trim just above the metallic door opener. There is a couple of millimeters of separation (delamination) of the wood from the attached plastic mounting, and I think that the separation is allowing that corner of wood trim to vibrate. I've glued the trim down a bit, but there's still some buzzing sound. Any ideas on fixing this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  10. This is part of a paragraph from a "European Car" magazine review of the '02 996 that I found surfing the net: Then there's the Advanced Technic Package, its $3,240 delivering the contents of the Technic Package (Bi-xenon HID headlamps--high intensity for both high and low beams--headlamp washers and in-dash CD player) plus a new Bose digital sound system with 12 speakers and a remote CD changer. This is the link to the article: http://www.europeancarweb.com/longtermers/0206ec_carrera/ It may not be a complete description, but that's all I could find for now.
  11. The PCM CD Drive I have for my navigation system only reads the map cd-roms and no audio cds. Philhan, Thank you for the reply.
  12. I'm sorry that this is a double post from the 996tt forum, but I haven't gotten any replies there. Can anyone tell me if the PCM1 CD drive can play music CD's, or does it only read the navigation CD-ROM's? Thank you.
  13. Can anyone please tell me if the PCM1 navigation drive ('01 turbo) just reads the navigation CD-ROM discs, or should it also play music CDs? Thanks.
  14. I am new to this forum, and I just want to thank everyone involved in maintaining and contributing to this forum for all the helpful information I have been able to get from reading prior posts and the tech sections. Thank you.
