  1. Im a bit suspicious about the mileage on a cheap 99 996C2... does anyone know if there is a way to double check before i go and ask the dealer? thanks in advance kelvin
  2. i have a 98 c2...at 80tkm i needed a new engine because a piston ring broke.
  3. just thought i would mention that my mirror hasent made any whistling noises since i did that repair some months ago.... :) kelvin
  4. thanks toolpants...it was my mistake. i didnt realise that the blue and green plugs fit next to the yellow plug...i just didnt give it enough attention before asking for help  ill connect it up tomorrow and let you know how it works thanks again for your help.
  5. hi everybody i wanted to install the cd changer i bought a few months ago ..but im puzzled now because there doesent seem to be anywhere to connect it!! i have removed the pcm but all the connections are used by other connectors and are not compatible anyway. i bought a silverstone 2630 and want to connect it to my pcm1. my car is a 99 996c2 coupe..anybody got any ideas? toolpants? i posted a question asking if it was compatible before i bought it and toolpants said it was..am i missing somthing? thanks in advance
  6. thanks, but i thought the pics might show exactly what they did so that i might consider doing somthing simalar mysellf as i cant seem to get rid of the noise as yet...and if it worked i would at least know what exactly is causing it!! Nothing mysterious about it. Just insert a 10" piece of the grey rubber foam that is normally used to stop the rattle in the rear window between the overlapping lips of the door seal. If it works, glue it down. Done. got that noise problem solved at last!!! i removed the mirror, took of all the mirror seals and bits of foam rubber, cleaned everything. then reasembled using copious amounts of vaseline. when i assembled it all and tightend the mirror screws it oozed out of the joints :D ...i was really happy that even on a very windy day like today that the noise has completly disapeared :clapping: now i know where the problem is..and should it come back i will buy all new seals and apply silicon rubber to the places where i suspect that the wind gets through. thorsten, i also found a length of foam rubber cord in between the door rubber seal...so somebody has allready tried to do a fix in the past. probably some porsche zentrum mech.....i took it out. being a mechanic myself (aircraft) i think that is a cheap bodge, if i did somthing like that in my job i would get a kick up the butt. gruess kelvin
  7. know exactly how you feel..i spent money on a car that is normally out of reach for people that earn the money that i do...and then i had to have a new engine and pay for it myself...i must admit, i have lost faith. what was your particular situation? what yr & model is your ride? i posted a topic about my little personal porsche desaster a few weeks ago: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=8625
  8. thanks, but i thought the pics might show exactly what they did so that i might consider doing somthing simalar mysellf as i cant seem to get rid of the noise as yet...and if it worked i would at least know what exactly is causing it!!

  10. didnt make any difference im afraid...im looking at the mirror seal now.
  11. ill try a bit of tape..it is difinately coming directly from the mirror area thanks
  12. i have exactly the same...i have tried adjusting the window so that it goes up a little higher because i thought it might not be sitting properly in the seal and i also noticed that i wasent going up as high as the passenger side which doesent make any wind noise at all in comparision, but it didnt help. i havent got round to trying a little more yet. its annoying me big time. i shall be doing some more "adjusting" tomorrow and ill let you know if it has helped at all. i too am thinking along the lines that it might be the seal as the drivers door is obviously used alot more than the passenger door. kelvin
  13. great pictures and explanation Darren..i have wind noise coming from my drivers window in the mirror area which i think is turbulance noise getting through because the glass might not be going all the way up...ill try the adjustments and see what happens.
  14. got it sorted now...had to jiggle it around a bit and it was catching on the bumper.
  15. i have a prob on the drivers side. when i turn the tool it wont go the whole 180° when i turn in back it makes a loud "clack"....the headlight wont budge. anybody any ideas?
  16. i understand your "nauseation" only too well.....i think there are a lot of people out there who dont have a warranty and are now rather anxious about if their engines are gonna hold out or not...bad news when you think of the reputation porsche have got..it seems to me as if they are just sitting back on a under false pretences earned reputation in their (porsche designed?) office chairs while the porsche shares are going up and up and not spending enough of the millions that they earn helping owners of blown low milleage and correctly maintained engines that bought the product "porsche" thinking that they were buying an engineering masterpiece...i have even heard of problems occuring with the 997! dont they care at all? anyhow...i still love the car (isnt that strange?)..lets enjoy our cars so long as they are under warranty...im gonna give my engine hell!!!! :drive:
  17. i sincerly hope that your engine holds out...i had no warnings, there was no indication that anything was about to happen, the car had all the inspections done at an official dealership and the large inspection at 80000km was also done with a comment " great condition" i shall be picking my car up tomorrow, with a new engine and 2 years garantie. im really looking forward to it..but how will i feel after 2 years? ill tell you, SCARED
  18. the horror story goes on and on...i got a tip from the official porsche dealership that a very good non-official porsche workshop might be able to help...the guy said he could get me an exchange engine from porsche with 2 year porsche warranty within a week and 3000 euros cheaper than the "porsche zentrum". so i was real happy and contracted him to get my car towed to his workshop. i was really looking forward to getting a brand new engine with all the periferals (have i spellt that right?) even a new exhaust is included! he called me yesterday with the bad news. porsche raised their prices almost 50% for exchange engines on march 1st. so it was gonna cost the same as the porsche zentrum...unfortunatly i didnt have any written price confirmation or repair contract so i lost out again...im gutted. the info above is not quite correct, porsche raised their prices on feb 1st and not as drastic as i was told initially. ..im getting a new exchange engine with 2 year porsche garantie for 11000 euros including all fluids and work. its gonne hurt but not so much as the 13000 i was quoted from an official porsche dealership.
  19. i might just sign up there and add a story  i wish i had the money for the new AM Vantage
  20. the horror story goes on and on...i got a tip from the official porsche dealership that a very good non-official porsche workshop might be able to help...the guy said he could get me an exchange engine from porsche with 2 year porsche warranty within a week and 3000 euros cheaper than the "porsche zentrum". so i was real happy and contracted him to get my car towed to his workshop. i was really looking forward to getting a brand new engine with all the periferals (have i spellt that right?) even a new exhaust is included! he called me yesterday with the bad news. porsche raised their prices almost 50% for exchange engines on march 1st. so it was gonna cost the same as the porsche zentrum...unfortunatly i didnt have any written price confirmation or repair contract so i lost out again...im gutted.
  21. Obviously not... @happy911: if you are talking about my bike incident back then - yes I went away okay. My shoulder hurt for a few weeks and my leather clothes looked about the same as the seats in the Boxster. People were staring at me quite a bit when I pulled off at the next gas station  Guess I looked like Jason after a hard night of slaughter :P Thorsten happened to me on my ducati..a seagull hit the left hand headlight and just disintergreted, i saw the **** thing coming at me in like slow motion before it hit, but couldnt do anything to avoid it because of the high speed...i suppose it commited suicide. i looked like a butchers shop front window after that...had to use a pressure wash at the gas station to get everything of my leathers helmet and bike, and pooh what a smell!!
  22. if its the same problem that i had..then expect them to tell you that you need a new engine.... :o
  23. Yes it is and its translation is...manual...which means it is not in automatic mode any more (I'm the master of the obvious). its actually the german word "manuell" and i can say with 100% authority that it means "manual" :D
