  1. My 1997 Boxster (5 spd with 31K miles) developed an oil leak which was evaluated by a local, well respected private shop. The tech discovered oil leaking from the crankcase ventillation system, claiming the problem was caused by the oil separator. Can someone explain this scenario to me? What parts are required and what costs might I expect to repair same?
  2. A coolant overflow damaged an O2 sensor requiring replacement of same. It was suggested to me that all 4 sensors should be replaced simultaneously in my 1997 Boxster (31,700 miles) rather than merely the single, damaged unit otherwise the car would run poorly and a Check Engine light would result. Is this true? Many thanks for your time and trouble.
  3. After starting my 1997 Boxster yesterday morning, I drove several miles to a local supermarket. After shopping, we proceeded home. About 1 block from my house, the Check Engine light illuminated. No other warning lights appeared, the temperature gauge remained normal and I neither saw any smoke nor heard any unusual noises. After pulling into the garage and shutting the engine, I noted a large amount of a yellow-tinged, watery and slightly viscous liquid pouring from just inside the right rear wheel onto the garage floor. The coolant level appeared normal and unchanged and neither the trunk carpet nor the area around the coolant cap appeared wet. I had the car towed to a private and well respected local shop this morning. The shop owner called to inform me the Check Engine light reflected a failed oxygen sensor, however, he could not find the source of the fluid leak I described. He claimed the coolant level remained normal and could not detect a problem with the water pump or coolant hoses. He intended to search further. Can anyone suggest the cause of this fluid leak or a course of action to determine the source. Many thanks in advance for taking the time to answer.
  4. Yesterday, after starting the '97 Boxster (31K miles) in the garage (previously ran some 7 hours earlier), I realized my sunglasses remained in the house. Leaving the Boxster at idle, I ran into the house to retreive same when I heard a loud crash-my cats decided to knock off every book from the shelves in the den. It took several minutes to restore order so that by the time I returned to the garage, the Boxster had been running at idle for some 8-10 minutes or so. I noted a small amount of white-gray exhaust smoke accompanied by a clattering (almost diesel-like) engine noise. I pulled out of the garage and noted that both the smoke and clattering valve-train noise disappeared immediately after driving off. There were no abnormal dash warning lights and the car seemed to be running normally. The car completed a major service only a few days earlier-all was well. This am, the car started and ran normally. I have noted no oil or other fluids on the garage floor beneath the car. Should I have concerns about this episode? Any pertinent recommendations wll be greatly appreciated.
  5. Being new to Boxsters, I would appreciate this Board's knowledge and experience. When driving my '97 Boxster in either 2nd or 4th gears at a constant speed, should I let up on the gas pedal, the gear shift lever moves very slightly forward. This movement is not present when in 3rd or 5th gears. What, if any, concerns does this suggest? Many thanks for taking the time and trouble to answer my query.
