  1. I was dealing with the same issue along with installing a V1, a power adapter for my MP3, and a laser jammer. I ended up buying a blade fuse subpanel from Autozone, split the terminal (cut the brass insert- 3 switched, one unswitched) then wired the switched and non-switched wires from the phone plug to the new panel. I closed the connection to the fm modulator, cut off the fuse holder and wired it to the unswitched fuse. I removed the fuse holders for the V1 and laser system and wired those to the switched side of the subpanel. I then took the power adapter (cigarette lighter insert) removed the stepdown voltage converter and wired that into the switched side of the fuse block. The panel can be attached in the foot well next to the fuse box. The wiring harness can be made with heat shrink tubing. Basically, all the above is just a variation on the theme of using the telephone plug.
  2. in working with these modulators in the past, I had issues with bleed through (a real problem in the northeast). I'll try it without the swithc and see if there are issues.
  3. Orient Express was right. You need the adapters (www.crutchfield.com part #12040EU20 and #12040EU10). The scoche in line modulator is like all others - it has the typical antenna connectors. The modulator does require a power supply. I plan on tapping into the switched phone power lead. I've also ordered a rear defroster switch from sunset and will adapt to use as the on/off button (yes, I will need to "modify" the graphic). It should give everything a more finished look.
  4. Just spoke with Crutchfield. They now have a Scoche in-line FM modulator that's suppose to work without the adapters. I've ordered both the adapters as well as the modulator. One way or another, I should get this to work. Thanks for the links- Mike
  5. I'm getting mixed messages from my search - all say that the VW adapters will work on the Cayenne. Thats what I bought (antennaworks proline vw/audi/european). This definitly does not fit. Are there multiple types of Cayenee adapters as well?
  6. I have a 2004 996 with the CDR23 radio. I was planning on installing an in-line FM modulator and ground loop insulator. I picked up the parts from a local installer who said I needed a VW/Audi type antenna adapter. Low and behold, the antenna into the back of the radio is not the typical VW connect. Any suggestions or should I just bag it? The small wireless FM modulators deliver nothing but static.
  7. Slightly different... you need to release the clip in the center vent first. See the posts here. Got it - thanks Mike
  8. With the same trick work for the 2004 996 (radio/cd option, no navigation)? It looks like it's one piece (horseshoe shaped).
