  1. thank you both so much, the crankshaft position sensor went on me earlier during covid. when I pulled out the dipstick tube to get to the plug, the o-ring for the dipstick tube decided to stay in the block. It was a super pita to get that out we've been without the car for a while. getting these plugs sorted without putting them backwards is the last step to get the car back on the road
  2. I ended up removing the plug to alternator and one near it to get to the crankshaft position sensor plug that is on the dipstick. All that work is done and I am left with two plugs that look the same. One goes to the alterntator and one goes to a plug right next to it but they are basically the same plug and I assumed they would be differnt so didnt mark them or take pictures. Does anyone know which one goes where. One plug is wired with a single blue wire and the wire path is from the bottom of engine bay. . Other plug has two wires going to plug and the wire loom comes from center of block direction. Which one goes to alternator? If anyone has a Cayenne 6 cyl in garage you should be able to see this without removing anything. I would be very greatful. Really just need to see which diection the wire loom that plugs in to alternator comes from and confirm if there is a blue wire or the pair of wires (red and orange I think) peaking out from wire loom. Thanks so much
  3. Thanks.. I did end up pairing my phones and am trying out the XM Traffic. I dont think it is good as google maps though as it seems to be only the major roads
  4. THanks for the info on the maintenance. It had a CPO sticker in the window. The salesman said it would be 2 years or 50K (more miles). He said it caps at 100K miles. He said since the car has 59K on it it would be 2 years or 41K miles for me. . It seems to match what I found here http://www.porsche.com/usa/approvedused/porscheapproved/ http://www.autotrader.com/car-shopping/cpo-program-review-porsche-238862 This is a 2012 Cayenne. From that second website, it seems if the car was still under warranty at time of used sale they would push the warranty out to 6 years(from original sale date) up to 100K total miles miles. I assume the original warranty was 4 years or 50K miles. If the car is not under warranty (this one has 59K and I would assume more then 4 years old) then the warranty seems to be 2 year from date of used purchase of 50K more miles(not to exceed 100K in total) I think the difference might be that I am talking about 2 years of date of used sale and I think maybe you are talking about 5 years from the original sale? They seem to have pushed that to 6 years from cars that are still under warrenty but offer this other warrenty for cars that are out of warrenty but still in good shape
  5. I was looking at a 2012 Cayenne today. I was trying to get an understanding of what features are available if you have put a cellular SIM card in the slot. I am assuming of course that with a SIM inserted you can have a phone without bluetooth pairing. But does the cayenne use/need cellular data for anything? It seems like in this is model traffic data comes in via satellite radio. Also, is Verizon allowed, they use a CDMA network that is a bit different then most GSM providers like ATT or Tmobile. I know in my older Cayenne Verizon wasnt supported at al
  6. I am looking at a CPO Cayenne. This would be my first CPO Porsche, it would be 2 years of coverage. Is there a requirement to take the car back to the dealer for regular services to keep the CPO warranty? I am wondering if I could have oil changes down at an independent shop and/or do them myself.
  7. The pin for the rear brakes is really frozen. Used some WD40 but I only had a nail-set rather then a good size punch. Couldnt get it to move at all. I was thinking about getting an air hammer but wasn't sure if this was the best tool for this or a tool I would get a lot of other use out of. Is there a better tool/way to free this?
  8. In order to get a baseline for what sensors report, I ran durametric and grabbed all the oil and engine temps and the MAF values. A few values like engine temp and engine oil temp seem to have two entries where only one reports. In both cases the one with '(sensor)' didnt report? Should I be concerned about that? In this case the car was in garage and engine temp started. The engine temp was 13C(50F) which matched ambiant temp. My plan is to put it outside a bit later in the week when I know it will be cold enough with a warming scheduled within a day or two. Last time I put it outside I coudlnt start it for a few weeks.
  9. Thanks.. Is it correct to assume this is the same as the coolant temperature sensor? On this engine, it appears it is on passenger side in front of engine.
  10. We normally keep our Cayenne in the garage. However, if we leave it outside and it is cold out (sub 40F), the car doesn't start. Last time this happened, I had it hooked up to a battery charger so it was fully charged and cranking hard but still no start. Later in the afternoon, the weather warmed up to around 50F and sure it then started just fine. I had a similar problem last winter which I worked around by leaving the car in the garage. If we go out and park the car in the cold it does mostly restart just fine. In warmer weather it also just starts fine. Since the symptoms are so closely tied to temperature I am think this is a sensor. I have durametric, there are no codes being thrown. I did test the fuel pump. Both tank pumps push the proper pressure and the pressure is still good 45 minutes after shutdown. Since this is a 2008 V6 it has DFI. I did replace the higher pressure pump last year thinking that may be my issue. That didnt change things. Any thoughts of what to look at next
  11. Is it normal when running a fuel pressure test for the gauge to bounce around. It holds 70 when the car is not running but when I start it, it looks like someone taped a vibrator to the back of the gauge. It osculates back and forth. it does appear the mid-point is 70 but is moves so fast it is tough to tell. I have a 2008 V6 Cayenne.. last two winters I have a cold start problem where it totally sounds like engine is starving for fuel. If I keep the car in the garage it is totally fine. I was thinking it was the fuel pumps and this is what lead me to test. It did hold pressure well.. it was around 60psi after 30-40 minutes.
  12. last two winters i have this cold starting issue which I have a feeling might be fuel pump related. Problem is it only happens when the car is sitting cold in the driveway. I cant replicate while in the garage but it is so dam cold out today in NJ that my hope is can get it started once and get it in to garage to do some more testing I know that fuses 13 and 14 control the pumps. If I remove fuse 13 is that enough to force the car to fire the other pump or do I need to remove the actual relay. Also - the document that is listed above, I cant find. Is that still available?
  13. Thanks.. Using that website, I have the 'junior' size timers (pins) on the coil connector. After an hour or searching for tool I figured out that junior timer is also called JPT (junior power timers). Amazon seems to have a tool for about $27 shipped.. Will post back after I try it http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A8FXAO0/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1NHMHLY9O21KY
  14. I was changing the spark plugs on my Cayenne and the connector on the top coil will not come off. Part the 'clip' broke. Now when you insert the pick tool in that hole it doesnt put the right pressure that allows the clip to release. I am sure I can get it off with a flat screwdriver or by sliding a pick under the part that catches the clip but I assume the connector will not hold tight after that. I plan to replace the connector. My question - Can I remove the wire/pins from the old connector and migrate the pins in to a new one? Some pictures seem to indicate there is a purple piece that might slide out allowing for the pins to be removed. Car runs fine now so want to have the right parts/tools on hand before I start.
  15. Is anyone familiar with the valve (item 2/3). I actually changed the high pressure fuel pump a few days ago hoping that was the cold start problem. While changing the pump I didnt see what totally appears to be a pressure valve. item 2/3 looks like it. the right two connectors are low pressure but I am thinking that valve might be at high pressure.. .
  16. I was talking about this tool. You pull on the clip with that and part of it flexes and releases the clip. .
  17. Not sure how but I broke the clip connects the wires to the top of the coil. I used the tool but instead of releasing the part that the bending tool pushes against broke. Wire harness didn't release so I am okay for now. 1)I have to double check the part number but it looks like the bottom half of the connector is readily available around $20. Do I need a special tool to remove the wires? 2)I will likely have to break the old clip to get it off. Or at least push a flat screw driver down the side and bend it a bit. My main concern would be to not crack the cbut I don't see any other major risk.. Other then forcing it off and then not being able to transfer the wires... Is there any other major risk that I am missing
  18. 2008 v6... my doesnt seem to have the shrader valve that I have seen in others.. I would going to test it at the union in the fuel line. Same setup as this video at the 45 second mark. I just need the right adapter. It hear the pump priming. it just cranks too long, one really cold days I sometimes have to try 2-3 times to get it to start. no fault codes. Battery was getting near end of life, was not holding voltage very well in cases where I didnt drive it for a week.. It now cranks harder but still have an issue on the colder days
  19. I am having some cold starting issues. My Cayenne often cranks more then I feel is right on start-up. I wanted to test the fuel pressure. However my fuel pressure gauge doesnt have the right adapter. I have a v6 base. I was wondering if you can see the fuel pressure in Durametric? I had gotten the impression that maybe you could based on some threads from others where they were talking about fuel pressure at certain throttle positions. However I dont see fuel pressure as a variable when I hooked my car up last night.
  20. I agree 100% that I don't want to mess with the high pressure side of system. that is why I was looking to test it at the rubber hose where fuel line comes in to engine bay rather then at the fuel rails. Agree that car in that video is not DFI, my point of reference in that video was that at the hose he tests it would be low pressure regardless of if car is DFI or not. I picked that point because that hose is what feeds the high pressure pump and appears to be the only connection in the engine bay that would be low pressure. Problem is I cant seem to find any reference to what size that fitting is or where I can buy a fitting that would properly allow me to test pressure and flow.
  21. Still stuck on this.. I think that amazon part was the right idea but it was too small. I saw a youtube video of a guy testing the pressure on a touareg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVBaH2jsPg4 but I cant tell what kind of tester he is using. 1)Can anyone recommend the proper equipment to fuel pressure and flow on a 2008 V6? I have a basic tester which doesn't seem to support testing it in-line. http://www.amazon.com/OTC-5630-Fuel-Pressure-Test/dp/B000R5IASC/ref=sr_1_2?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1397943564&sr=1-2&keywords=fuel+pressure+gauge As RFM mentioned this is DFI and I wanted to start by testing the low pressure. 2)I did see mention somewhere on the high pressure reporting back pressure that could see the PWIS. I have durametric and didn't see that value. Any chance I am just missing it?
  22. my gauge doesn't have anything to connect to the port above but from checking the parts manual it certainly seems like it is before the high pressure pump. This would also be supported by the fact that it is a rubber hose. After doing a tons of searches on Cayenne/Tourgeg/Porsche/Audi and fuel pressure adapter I believe it is a 12MM bolt. I ordered this from amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CPJI8I/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I am mostly posting this here in case someone has the run the same test in the future as it was a pain in the butt to figure out right part.
  23. That is that the parts diagram is telling me too.. the part by the oil fill is just a cover, the reset appears to be a one piece manifold. For $500-$600 I will at least attempt to re-paint it. I might be able to strip the paint off and re-paint.... It was mostly that the paint bubbled however off course where it fell was on the P and o and the raised part of letters got a little soft..
  24. Picture is from ipad and for reasons unknown is upside down. Can I disconnect hose by intake and hook up took there?
  25. I am trying to test the fuel pressure on a base model. All the manuals I look at have a test port in front either on left or right side in front. I think this one is I back but it doesn't match any write up I saw. I don't see anything in front that could be port Is the pipe In center of picture the location to hook gauge? Also I saw references to pwis making the pressure availabled. I have dirmentric but didn't see that value available, is pipe in center of picture the right port location. Should I expect to have pressure cisablecin the app
