  1. I see we are both from NJ Jon. Must be something with the "Jersey" cars. :P
  2. I have noticed that sometimes when I lock the car from the key fob the lights blink and the horn "bleeps" once. Then other times the lights blink but the horn doesn't "bleep" at all. I have paid attention and all of the conditions (windows up, parking brake on, both boots shut, etc..) are the exact same, so the horn part appears to be intermittent. A) is the horn supposed to bleep or not under normal circumstances when locking down ? B) if so, what might be causing mine to do so only intermittantly ? Actually, I just thought of something.... when we were away on vacation I was locking the glove box, which I don't normally do, and the horn was bleeping on lock down. When I got home I noticed that the horn was back to not bleeping, but the glove box was probably unlocked at this point. Would that be it? The horn doesn't bleep if the glovebox is left unlocked - even in a locked car ?
  3. I don't know about anyone else, but I cant get to the link for some reason....
  4. See that, I used the prescribed procedure with out even having the manual. I must be becoming Porsche-ized already :-)
  5. Thanks CA_Boxster, this is great info. Mine is an '03 with the door speakers. I will check this stuff out.
  6. I wish I had taken pictures. You really don't need to remove the screws. The panel contains two slotted flat surfaces which the screws (and the washers that are on them) clamp to the floorpan side surface. There are also three or four clip type retainers on each half of the banel back to hold it in. I just loosened the screws 3 or 4 turns and pulled the panel off straight up, working one end then the other a bit at a time until the clip type retainers released their grip. Before I replaced the panel, I made sure the washers on those screws were resting against the screw heads, assuring there was room to easily slide the slots in the clamping surfaces of the panel over the screw between the washer and the floorpan surface. Then I pressed the panel straight downward, seating the clip type retainers. Once the panel is seated, I just snugged the two screws back up and replaced the covers. The screws on mine were Torx screws though, not allen screws. Maybe someone has changed them, hard to say. They looked "factory" though.
  7. Nevermind...I got it. Remove the 2 small plugs on the inside edge. Take out the two torx screws in behind them (fairly deep, will need a torx screwdriver not a 1/4" socket style driver). Lift straight up on the panel. Takes some oomph, but it comes out clean.
  8. The rear boot switch on the drivers side sill panel dissapeared inside the panel today on my wife. I need to remove the panel to see whats up but can't see how it is held in. I know the passenger side is held in by two screws and clips, but this side does not appear to contain any screws and it doesn't feel like it is just clipped in. Anyone know how to remove this switch panel ? 2003 Boxster
  9. vfxbox...I take it you have done this, since you developed this nice bracket. Did you put coaxials in the dash? If so, how do you like their sound compared to the separates? Also did you change out the doors as well? How about the head unit? What speakers/head unit did you select and why? And after it all, was it as much of an improvement as you had hoped for?
  10. That sounds like RF interference. Did you change the plug wires, make ignition mods, or anything before this started?
  11. Has anyone here replaced the crappy OEM speakers with another manufacturer's equipment that fits in the OEM spaces and uses the OEM grills? I would like to replace the speakers in my 03, but I want to maintain the stock look. I do not want an obvious aftermarket look...just sound. :D Also, is there any reason why a 4" coaxial couldn't be used in the dash top positions rather than the odd sized 4"+.75" component system? If anyone has done this kind of mod, I would be interested in knowing what make/models of speakers can be used successfully - and how much (if any) modification has to be done?
  12. OK, so how about this issue....according to a guy on another discussion board: "You may have some issues with the tyrod if it is stock by lowering the car it will force the rear tires to angle in thus creating more wear in the inside of your tires then being even it is a quick fix but you need more parts in order to make the alignment proper. It also may create a fair amount of bump steer. The caveat to this is that this is what I have experienced on the '00 S putting in the MO30 package which lowers the car only an inch." He says that the fix for this is to replace the tyrods with an adjustable set at anywhere from $900 each to $900 a set. Twice the cost of the spring set. However, this puzzles me because if you order a car with the M030 suspension from the factory, Porsche doesn't change the tyrods. So my next question is, while I'm sure his point is technically valid, how bad IS the bump steer and tire wear issue in actual application ? Especially if you have changed the springs without doing the tyrod mod. Also, I noticed that his car is an '00, mine is an '03 if that makes any difference.
  13. Some of you seem very knowledgable about the PCM systems. I have someone offering me a good price on a system if it will work in my '03 US Boxster. The units he has show the following part numbers: 996.642.105.03 EFR 996.642.102.01 EFR He really can't tell me if this is a PCM1 or PCM2, if it's CD or DVD based, he only can identify the part numbers. He says it may have come out of either an '02 or '03 C4S, or it may have been one of his kids' Boxsters ('99 or '02). He had it tucked away in a container on a shelf, and ran across it when cleaning out his garage. My Boxster is an '03 with the 490 Digital sound system option. Anyone know if the units are compatable ?
  14. The guy who has it says the part numbers on the units are: 996.642.105.03 EFR 996.642.102.01 EFR He says he can't tell if it is CD based or DVD based.
  15. That's kind of what I thought looking at it.
  16. I ran across a guy with a NAV system for sale, but he is not sure if it is from a 2002-2003 C4S or one of the Boxsters his family has had (1999 0r 2002). I can't tell much from the picture he sent (attached). Does anyone know if either of these possible models would work in my 2003 986 ? If so, what is it worth ?
  17. Yes, they are. Thanks for the info. How do you like the performance and look of the spring change ?
  18. Can the lowering springs (EVO is what I have in mind) be used on an '03 with the 411- 18" Lt Alloy Carrera Wheel option without rubbing ?
  19. My '01S, when I bought it used, had stock 18" Sport Designs, PZero 225-40 & 265-35, H&R springs and 14 mm spacers with no rubbing. When I replaced the PZeros with Bridgestone S03s, I had slight rubbing on major bumps & dips -- maybe just because the tires were at full tread depth. Thanks Mickf. Good to know.
  20. Along these lines....with the stock 2003 Boxster 18" sport rims and Pirelli PZero tire sizes, how much spacer can be used to widen the stance F/R, especially if you also plan to use the lowering springs ?
