  1. I recently switched from 17 to 20 Inch wheels on my 2008 Cayenne V6. Ride quality is a little more stiff but fine. I have yet to jnstall my H&R lowering springs on my OEM struts, but I'm told that doing so will make the ride more stiff.

Here is a site that will tell you the difference in the speedometer when changing tire sizes. It's a pretty big difference.

  2. I ordered the H & R springs to lower my suspension.  I bought my 2008 Porsche Cayenne V6 (w/o air suspension) about 13 months ago.  I was told when I bought it that the struts and springs had been replaced (I'm assuming with OEM parts).  Without the front wheel liners off, I can see that the springs are new because the Porsche labels look to be clean and new.  Assuming that the struts are new, is it ok to have the H&R springs installed using the current OEM struts or do you recommend that I get new/different struts such as Bilsteins?

Also, would I have to get a camber kit?  My wheel & tire size are 275/45/20.

  3. I am thinking about purchasing the Fab Speed Secondary Cat Bypass Pipes. I have a couple of questions:

    1. Is it relatively easy to install? I am not a mechanic in any way, but am a relatively competent do it yourselfer with instruction.

    2. What problems may I encounter during the install?

    3. What tools will I need for the install?

Eventually, I would like to upgrade the entire exhaust system and noticed that Fab Speed also sells the Maxflo Mufflers and Deluxe Quad Style Tips. Are these components relatively easy to install as well?

Any help would be much appreciated.

  4. One thing you should be aware of with Alpine products...it requires that a wire be connected to the parking brake wire in order to access the menu controls in order to avoid being able to that while driving.  Have your installer install a manual kill switch instead.  Otherwise, you will never be able to access the menu controls unless your parking brake is activated.

  5. Thanks for the info. I will be bringing my 2008 Cayenne base to an Indy. I've noticed a couple of things. When shifting from 3rd to 4th gears there is somewhat of a pause or lag. This also happens sometimes between 4th and 5th gears. The second thing that I noticed is that when accelerating, the gears shift pretty quickly and sometimes, by the time I reach 40 mph it's already in 5th gear. I've only had the car for less than a month, but this doesn't seem normal.

I looked at the car maintenance history and the prior owner had the spark plugs changed in December 2013. I'm wondering if these issues are coil related problems or if this is a major tranny issue. Any thoughts?

  6. Honestly - I'd go back to the normal paper filter. The oil on the K&N filters can kill your MAF, and they just don't filter as well as the paper ones (demonstrated by a lot of oil analysis reports from various platforms). You gain almost zero HP with it, and given that you have a 5K+ lb car with a small V6, there isn't much you can do for HP mods that will make a real difference (that you actually feel). PAG and VAG cars don't usually have a flow problem when it comes to air boxes unless you're really going beyond stock HP. Lots of high HP cars from VAG and PAG running the OE airbox and paper filter. It's what I run on my CTT, and even when I get it tuned with a modified exhaust, I'll still run the stock air box and filter. Even if you could gain 5 HP from an air filter, we're talking about going from a power/weight ratio of .05 to .051. The Turbo has a power to weight ratio of .085. You're gaining 2% on your power to weight ratio. For comparison, the difference between a full and empty tank of gas is close to 3%. So, if you want a mod that doesn't add wear to your motor, drive around with less fuel.

My favorite mods are preventative maintenance. But, I think 20" wheels are kind of a sweet spot for wheels on this car. You can mount a 275/45/20 tire on there (stock size is 275/40/20) and that really opens up a lot of tire choices, plus it fills out the fenders nicely, IMO. I do like those wheels, and I have found that most replica wheels are pretty strong. So, I wouldn't worry too much about the manufacturer.

Not much else you can do with a V6 Cayenne. Stay on top of maintenance, and use that mod money for road trips.

I took your advice and put back the original air filter. I don't want to take any chances.

  7. I recently purchased my 2008 Cayenne about 3 weeks ago. So far, I've changed the air filter to a K&N filter, changed the cabin filter and added a portable GPS Bluetooth unit. I considered getting an in dash Alpine GPS unit installed, but couldn't justify spending $2k to add that. Instead, I'm thinking of upgrading my wheels to 20 inch wheels. Attached is the GPS that I added and the wheels I am planning on getting from WheelTechTuning. Does anyone have any positive or negative experiences with this wheel or company? What other mods do you suggest?
