  1. All 997's use the M.O.S.T. data bus. The non-Bose system still uses the same bus.
  2. Sorry bout that! I saw it, and thought to myself that if I didn't grab it, someone else on the board would! B)
  3. Well, I'm all set. I bought a brand new flat tire kit for a 996 on eBay. It has all the stuff with it. Tools, jack, even a plastic bag to put your flat tire in. It fits in the front upright if you let the air out, which is what I chose to do, since the 997 has a compressor.
  4. Not sure this is exactly what you are after, but in case you've not seen it, you might want to check this out. http://www.nav-tv.com/porsche.htm
  5. Compressed air and Meguires works great. Thanks for the idea.
  6. The 997's do not come with a spare of any kind, although it can be ordered as an option. The car is equipped with a tire sealant kit and a small compressor . Porsche claims it will temporarily seal a gash up to 3" long ,but I sure hope I never have to test it . Lol Exactly my concern. I really don't want to test the tire sealant kit (the goo) out. I didn't realize a spare was available as an option. Where the heck do you hide a spare tire in a 997? I guess you lose all of your storage in the front?
  7. OK, so I'm worrying about stuff I probably shouldn't, but... The one thing that freaks me out a bit about my 997 is the lack of a spare tire for two reasons. First of all, does the goo/compressor thing actually work? Can it really give me a tire I can drive on? And for how long? And if I do flat, will I be able to get the tires I want on the car in a reasonable time at a halfway decent price, or am I stuck either without a car waiting for tires, or paying way too much. This car is my daily driver, so that is I'm sure at least part of why my concerns are probably more than most 997 owners. Also, we've had buzzards luck with flats in the past 5 years or so. I'm actually considering ordering a set of PS2's from TireRack, and keeping them on hand for the inevitable, be it a flat or just time to replace them. Comments? Anyone have experience with the goo?
  8. For what it is worth, other than 1st being stiff to engage during the first minute or two of operation (just as Porsche says it will be), my sport shifter works like a dream. It operates just as I would expect a Porsche to, and is by far the best transmission I've ever used. I agree with others who have stated that if your transmission does not engage properly, it needs to be fixed. These cars should, and can operate flawlessly. JMHO
  9. I knew when I bought my midnight blue metallic 997 that it would be hard to keep clean, and I was right. It's a great color, so its worth it. I'm just wondering if anyone has any tips with regard to the water that collects in the gap below the tail lights. No matter what I do, after I wash it, I can't seem to get all of it out until I drive the car. Then I'end up with water marks on the rear bumper from the water that finally comes out. How do you guys deal with this?
  10. I can confirm that running lights can be activated by the owner in a 997. The option is available on the PCM menus, and I have activated it successfully.
  11. Thanks. Guess I'll have to sell this POS, and get something that plays mp3's... not. I got my Porsche, and I'm smiling every day!
  12. That's exactly what I'm hoping to be able to do, avoid adding a changer. Does the PCM immediatly recognize your MP3 disk as such, or do you have to go into a menu of some sort? Mine just tells me it is not an audio CD. I'm thinking that I don't have either the latest software, or hardware to read the disk. Hopefully it is the software, & it can be upgraded. I just did a search of the 05 Manual for the 997 and there is no mention of mp3 at all so it looks like it might have been an addition for 06. Yes, the system recognizes it and a little wma/mp3 icon pops up on the lower right of the Main screen. If you hit the Audio button there is an entry at the top for "Folders" above "Track List". Thanks, that confirms that I don't have the capability. Now the only question left for me is to figure out if there is a software upgrade that will add the functionality.

  14. Has anyone been successful at playing an MP3 CD in their 2005 997? I see mention that this is possible, but my PCM manual doesn't say anything about it, and the PCM does not recognize the CD as readable when I put it in. Is this a software upgrade that can be done by the dealer, or has the actual PCM equipment changed to support MP3 disks?
  15. OK, here is what is probably a stupid noobie question. I just purchased a used '05 997. Is it possible to use the PCM navigation with the older CD technology, or do you have to fork over the buck for the DVD system?
