that would be pretty tough to do though. that pick up is close to the cover...don't know if you would ever get the right angle to properly see up the pick up. but yeah, I'll be taking it off every 5k to perform an inspection when it's back together.

pretty much. oil pressure was fine iirc

lne is supplying the bearings. I'm sure the crankshaft is ok. bearings are worn but nothing looks scored or cooked.

I should know more next week. machine shop is done cleaning the cases so they are off to lne tomorrow.

anyone have specs for the crankshaft? specifically the measurement for the bearing journals? the machine shop said they can look at all that for me as long as I provide specs.

106 000 km on this motor. don't believe it was ever rebuild. those two fell out as I was pulling the carrier off...just put them like that for pics.

got to taking apart the carrier and pistons. took 20 minutes.

is it pretty solid? any brackets/braces you can undo to give you an inch or so?

ln was installed before I bought the car. I do not have the tools. I will probably use a shop in Montreal to rebuild it. one of the mechanics at this shop took jake rabys course.

I'm pretty sure the scoring was caused by the low oil pressure due to the clogged oil pick up.

hmm. ...I have a c4s and did the heater core last summer. I don't remember that pipe being in the way...if it was, it was easily moved to the front as I had no issues doing this repair. very easy

I wouldn't stress too much about a frame repair as long as the shop is doing it has the right equipment and know how to do so. my car was in a 40k hit in 2005 (it's an 02) & you would never be able to tell. the technology and process exists today to bring the car back 100%. the car will still be beautiful. I also own a lexus IS, same thing....was in a major accident in 2009, & you would never be able to tell. drives straight and true.

resale though....it's going to be a pain. make sure you have receipts so you can show the potential buyer exactly what happened.

Nice photos! Just wondering if you had low oil pressure reading before the failure? The oil pick up seems to be clogged by ~40%.

Wonder if those are worn chain rail material clogging the oil pick up, which leads to oil starvation then cylinder scoring.

I don't remember to be honest. chain rail heh.....I'll take a look at that tonight.

yes, check the grounds 1st before anything else. nothing but time.

sounds similar to what I experienced last April. the voltage regulator that bolts onto the alternator was the issue for me.

$80 at pelican and 2 hours in the garage and some pelican parts how-to tech articles, I was back to 14+ volts at idle and 0 issues starting it.

I always start with the cheapest solution.

may go from a 3.6 to 4.0. still doing some homework. it's the same price, so why not.

have a close relationship with them? anyway you could ask? would help me out a lot. those sensors are over $200/each here in Canada.

I don't want to buy the wrong one/wrong side.

Hoping by the end of this week, the cases are split & I can send off for cleaning before shipping out to LN Engineering.

found this in the pick up tube...looks like gasket maker, and what would look like beer bottle glass???? wth? no metal chunks though.

got more done this weekend. wish i had more time, I would had the cases apart if so.

which one of these is the solenoid causing the issue of hesitation from cold start?

starting to replace parts and this is one I'll do while it's out.

I hate to tell you this and I really hope I am wrong but that's the exact noise my car makes and the source of my noise was heavily scored cylinders & carbon build up on the valves is causing that noise.
