  1. Solved the problem. Somebody prior to my time with the car had swapped the wiper relay with one of the engine fan relays. Put the wiper relay in the right spot and everything works fine. Wish I had noticed that earlier, although I had wanted to swap out the column switch anyhow for the OBC hack.
  2. Loren thanks, but the problem is that the motor stops as soon as the steering column switch is put in the off position - it does not continue to the park position. When I removed the wiper motor to check its function, I did not note any corrosion or looseness in the linkage.
  3. I finally got around to delving into this problem deeper, as my car will have to pass inspection soon. As long as I have had it ('98 Boxster), the wipers do not do intermittent and do not park. Low and high speed work fine, as long as I time it carefully when I turn them off. Washers work fine. I swapped out the relay with no change. Took the wiper motor out and was able to get it to park when I was testing it. Yesterday, I replaced the stalk switch. This was only partially connected to the wiper problem as I wanted to do the OBC hack anyhow (which appears to work fine). But, the wipers still do not park or do intermittent. I believe I am faced with looking for a more obscure wiring or connector problem. So does anybody have any suggestion of where to start looking or any diagnostic procedures? Any information about what voltages I should see at the relay pins when the wiper switch is in the off or intermittent position with the relay removed? Thanks, Mike
  4. Another member provided a real 986 relay, but that didn't help either. I have high speed and low speed wiping, the washer works as well. But when switched to the off position on the stalk the blades stop wherever they are on the windshield, and pulling the control stalk down doesn't do anything at all. What else should I try? I know some wiper motors have the park function built in, but would that also affect the intermittent control? I am afraid it might be the control stalk itself, but that's a bit expensive to just replace without being sure.
  5. That's what I was thinking. I have seen instructions for using the 996 relay for the variable intermittent have for the early Boxster, but wasn't sure whether this relay would work without the hack. Guess I have to track down a 986 relay.
  6. All I could find to check by searching the forums was the pulse wiper relay and check the nuts on the control arms for tightness, but I did that and the problem persists. This is a 1998 Boxster. I replaced the relay, but no change. Nuts are tight. No other electrical problems that I am aware of. The replacement relay had a part number of 996.615.103.00, while the original number is 986.615.103.00. The replacement relay has an extra small pin, but fits in the socket fine. Could this be an issue? All the replacement relays I could find online had the 996 part number, but were listed as replacement for the '98 Boxster. Anything else I should look at? Thanks, Mike
