  1. Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I have lost hope and do not know what I'm going to do with the car. I have tried to fix the error for over 1 year!
  2. Have you checked the grounds on the seat belt buckles? They are well known for ground related faults. No, this was new information for me. Where can I find it / them ??? The seat belt buckles, the part that the shoulder harness plugs into, have wires running to them that tell the system when the seat belts are buckled and turn off the seat belt alert chimes. They also help tell the air bag system which seats are occupied in case of a crash, as well as controlling the system pre-tensioners. If the buckles get dirt in them, they often do not register properly and the air bag system declares a fault. Sometimes, but not always, just cleaning out the buckles with some electrical contact cleaner will solve the issue, other times the buckle and/or wiring harness need to be replaced as wear has broken the circuit. I have tried to clean but it does not help. I have noticed that the warning lamp for the "safety belt" is not lit when driving without a seat belt. The warning light does not indicate when starting the car. I have never seen the light shine sometime? It is sounding more like you have a buckle or wiring issue, you should get an indication and/or a audio alarm of some sort if you try driving without the seat belt. I get no sound or indicator in the display. Neither the driver side or passenger side. The lamp has never shone in my possession of the car. You advise me to change Buckel seat? No, I am advising you to do some diagnostics to find out why the car does not sense that you are driving it with the seat belts undone. The buckle is just one component in this system that needs to be tested either electrically or using a Porsche specific scan tool. Besides the buckles, there are also weight sensors in the seat cushion's that sense when someone sits in the seat. Something in this network of contacts (in the buckles) and sensors is obviously not functioning correctly. Are you sure someone has not disconnected something in the system before you purchased the car, which is why none of the alerts are set off when you drive without seatbelts? If you go back to Loren's post on the meaning of the code you are seeing, it looks like something is not connected or misconnected. Hello again. Everything started when I had error code 1217 Ignition circuit power's side airbag. * airbag warning light on * Driver's side airbag can not be triggered. This I solved by soldering the cables. A recognized common error in the Porsche Cayenne. I zeroed the car with PIWIS and everything worked. After one month began Airbag light shine again and we linked up the car and made a new diagnosis. Then there were only error code 1738 Airbag Sensor (operates's) * airbag warning light on * Driver's airbag can not be triggered. This code I have now enjoyed for over 1 year without finding fault. I have no other fault codes in the airbag system. When Porsche workshop in Sweden trying to zero the system with PIWIS so it only takes half a second to illuminate the airbag lamp again. so of course I support your theory that there is a short circuit somewhere. FAULT CODE 1738 The airbag sensor (DRIVER'S) Diagnostic conditions * On Ignition * Internal function test on the airbag triggering unit.Possible Cause of fault * Implausible signal (incorrect airbag sensor Installed) * Open circuit (based on wiring between the airbag triggering unit and the air bag sensor or the airbag sensor itself) * Electrical fault in electric circuit (based on wiring between the airbag triggering unit and airbag sensor; probably a short circuit to B + or a short circuit to ground) * Faulty (airbag sensor is faulty) * Airbag triggering unit faulty There are 6 steps in how to troubleshoot the fault. I followed the steps and measured the cables between the airbag sensor (drives) to the airbag triggering unit and cables are intact.

  8. Has now changed airbag trigger unit (box) with no results. I have changed everything in the manual for error code 1738. New airbag tendons, new airbag triggering unit box. But my airbag light will remain illuminated. I have tried to zero the system with PIWIS. Unfortunately, my intuition told from the beginning that the error is in a ground fault. I have spent one year at this error and give up now. The car does not go through the Swedish survey and I have now immobilize the car. I will not be able to sell the car even with this problem. I feel very distressed and dejected ...
  9. Hi Loren. Are you able to look at my picture I've attached in this thread? I would appreciate if you are able to tell you which number combinations to match. I have managed to find a couple of boxes on ebay but are unsure which numbers must conform? Have found a box where all the numbers shown true except that which stands between the "stars" With respect / Alex, Sweden The new box must have all the same exact same part numbers as your original unit. all the numbers on the box must therefore match? The part number must match exactly, the serial numbers (between the * *) are unique to each box and all are different. What you're trying to say is that finding a used identical box is impossible? No, I am not. Using your picture above: You have to find one with the exact same 3D0 909 601 D part number; the serial number (*0036 Q 002CM1T*) is does not matter as the only one with that number is the one in your photo. I apologize if I'm nagging. I'm just trying to learn as much about my box as possible. However, you can clarify your last post, I would be very grateful. it is enough that I can find a box from a Porsche Cayenne S 4,5l 2004 model with the same 3D0 909 601 D Part Number. The serial number is thus unique to each box and is only one of each? That is correct. The serial numbers are unique to each box, so they do not matter, you just want to exactly match the part number. I appoint you to my everyday hero. Thanks for your time and dedication to my problem. Greatly appreciated! with the best porsche greetings Alexander Tobiasson, Sweden

  14. Thank you Loren. How important is it with all number ranges that are printed on the boxes? It is sufficient that the part number is identical, or must all number combinations on the boxes to be identical? If I have received accurate information, this number is important in the box. 3D0 909 601D. Thankful for all the support
  15. We have measured and checked the wiring between the airbag sensor and airbag triggering unit. Nothing. We have followed Porsche's steps and your recommendations you have written here. Porshes own diagnostic system indicates the same error on Porshe Center workshop. Porsche Center recommend me to buy a new airbag Trigger Unit. They do not guarantee that this is the problem. Unfortunately I have not the financial means to buy a new box. Can you buy a used airbag Trigger Unit Box from the same model year (2004)?
  16. Probably my Airbag Trigger Unit defective. I have had the error code 1738 in almost 1 year now and no one can help mig.Har been in contact with the Porsche Center and I have replaced the airbag sensor to a new but the problem remains. I have also checked all the cables and splices.
  17. This is a open letter to Porsche Leipzig GmHb i email today. Hello, My name is Alexander Tobiasson- I am 38 years old and lives in Sweden. I drive a Porsche Cayenne S V8 4.5 L model year 2004. Reg UJT049. I have owned the car for over 1 year. Unfortunately, the car's air bag system malfunctioned since I bought the car and the owner before've also had problems. The car is my dream and every day I sit in the car I'm proud as hell. I refuse to sell the car and I'll take care of the car in the best possible way. My family says I'm pedantic. I have tried to fix the error for 1 year but no one can help me. The car has had various error codes, it started with 1217. Unfortunately, this is a known bug in the Cayenne 2004 Porsche well know. Porsche remedied the defect free of charge on many cars. It was a two-pin connector that oxidized and it caused a short circuit as a result triggered the airbag lamp. I contacted the Porsche Centre in Kalmar, Sweden and explained the car's problems with error code 1217. They had never heard of the Porsche Cayenne 2004 had had this problem and they refused to help me. They offered to do a troubleshooting for payment. Of course I was sad and disappointed and contacted the largest Porsche forum on the internet. I quickly became aware that I was not alone in this problem. The error was corrected by soldering the cables and put the heat shrink tubing over the connection. After months of searching and consultation, I decided to perform the work yourself when Porsche Centre in Kalmar had no information or wanting to help me. I have read most documents from the Porsche current 2003-08 Restraints Airbag - 9pa_Cayenne. The error disappeared and months of hard work and sleepless nights paid off. The car worked flawlessly for 3 weeks, then came the next error code which is still unresolved. Error code 1738 (AIR BAG SENSOR (DRIVER'S) I have again been in contact with the Porsche Centre Kalmar and I got to buy me a diagnosis. They recommended me to replace the airbag sensor and this I have done but unfortunately with no result. I have also debugged and control measured cables between the sensor and airbag triggering unit and there is nothing to suggest anything wrong. About three weeks I get immobilize the car because out that Swedish law says that all cars with airbags to work. I ask humbly with respect for help from you . My finances do not allow to leave the car in more surveys and it does not seem to be enough expertise here where I live. / All the best Mr Alexander Tobiasson
  18. But what should I do then ??? Porsche Centre also do not know what's wrong and they did not reset, or locate the fault. they referred me to buy a new airbag sensor and I have done. but the problem persists ... crazy disappointed Fault ... No one can help me ... everyone derives me to different sources ... Not should you need replace half the car for an airbag lamp.
  19. That is a good scan tool and will be able to diagnose your airbag fault. Yes I know, but i can´t solve the problem...This is a nightmare
  20. It is very hard to follow the cable from airbag sensor (drivers) side to Airbag trigger unit. I have located the airbag trigger unit and have Done a visuell inspection. I believe that it is short Cuit in the cable. IT is possible to measure from Airbag sensor to airbag. Pin 78 in airbag trigger is airbag sensor.
  21. Hi. I have been with My car at Porsche Center in Sweden and they told me to by a new air airbag sensor. Today I installed It and with same result. Fult code 1738 airbag sensor ( driver side) I have tried to reset the code but with negativ result. This is hopeless. I can't get the car through the inspection with this ****ing airbag lamp on.
  22. Into account that the Porsche Cayenne has had huge problems with that airbag and moisture so it is ridiculous and disrespectful of Porsche to not face the consequences. I have been ridiculed in Sweden of many Porsche dealers who claim that Porsche has never taken back and fixed this known error. I know the Porsche around the world has helped many of the same problems that I have in my car. They do it for free when they were aware of the problem. I have lost confidence in Sweden and do all my repairs myself with good friends. A used or new sensor, what does it matter where the problem lies in the production?
  23. Hello. Alex from sweden calling:-) My front airbag sensor is malfunctioning. I've found a used sensor but the part number is slightly different. My part is 7LO909606 and used I have found 7LO909606B. Does anyone know what B does. I have pictures of both sensors if anyone wants to help me with this? My car is a Porsche Cayenne S 2004 4.5l Used airbag sensor from a 2005 Porsche Cayenne 3.2 V6 Thanks / Alex
