  1. Hi All, It turns out I have been hood winked ! After fitting the new immobiliser and had everything encoded the engine will not fully crank as it has been blown up! I am now up for a rebuilt engine for the car. Can anyone recommend a good source for another engine for a 1999 996 3.4L 6 speed in Australia, or elsewhere for that matter? I think it prudent to get an engine with the IMS fix applied, am I right on that? How much is this likely to cost? Best regards, Neil
  2. Thanks Richard, That's it in a nutshell! Best regards, Neil
  3. Hi Loren and Richard, Thanks again for the valuable information. I have a British supplier who is really trying to help with my dilemma. Can you read his email and tell me which ECU kit is the right one for my 99 996 Cabriolet manual? My car is a UK import to Australia VIN is WP0ZZZ99ZXS644456. the ECU BOSCH # 0 261 204 605 / 996.618.601.04 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Dear Neil I have just removed an ECU set from a 1999 996 today, VIN # WPOZZZ99ZYS602402. Barrel & housing with key included in price. Door handles/locks no problem. Immobiliser number M534 996.618.260.06 ECU number 996.618.605.00 Bosch 0261 204 790 All units are coded together. ECU number different but it won't give you a problem. ***** Also removed a Boxster ECU set today off a 98 model. Alarm number is 996.618.260.04 M534, ECU number is 996.618.601.04 (Bosch 0261 204 605) VIN # WPOZZZ98ZWS604904. Quite bizarre how all numbers are very similar between Boxster & 996 models. Also got a couple of sets of 996 ECU sets from 99/00 models with the following numbers: Immobiliser 996.618.262.00 & ECU # 996.618.605.00 (Bosch 0261 204 790) Immobiliser 996.618.260.06 & ECU # 996.618.605.00 (Bosch 0261 204 790) Thanks for reading this lengthy post, however I really need some expert advise! Thanking you in advance. Best regards, Neil
  4. Thank you so much Loren for your prompt reply. Can I buy a used one from UK with keys? Is it possible for this to be programmed more than once? Will it have to be reprogrammed to my existing ECU? People tell me I need a full set as being sold as plug and play? Are there any traps to avoid with this? Another option I believe is to have the immobiliser bypassed altogether as per the racing fraternity? Best regards, Neil
  5. Hi There, I bought a 1999 996 Cabriolet manual 6 speed that had been stolen trashed and recovered, minus the immobiliser. The car is a UK import to Australia VIN is WP0ZZZ99ZXS644456. the ECU BOSCH # 0 261 204 605 / 996.618.601.04 I understand the immobiliser is a M534 model, My question is what is the immobiliser number I need to get my car running and then start a restoration of this car. I have spoken to several suppliers in the UK however none of them will send me the correct and matching immobiliser part number. They say we don't have the matching part, leaving me back at square one! Can anyone please provide me with the part number? Best regards, Neil
