  1. Thank you very much Loren. I managed to find the fuel pump for about $120 less than what the dealer was charging me from one of these online part shops. They are charging $375 for labor, so I guess that sound right for your 3 hour estimate. Thanks again for the information.
  2. Hello all, I recently had a problem with my car not starting. It turned out to be the fuel pump. I got a call from the dealer telling me it would be $750-800. Does this seem reasonable for parts and labor. Does it make sense to avoid an independent shop in this case and stick with dealer? My car is a late 99 C4 with 70,000 miles. TIA
  3. Hey antonio, i heard of a company: leatherique.com that carries porsche interior leather paint codes. One rennlister told me it really works well. I think it comes in spray and maybe touchup. Personally I use a $10 product which you mix yourself to fix nicks in the leather. they sell them at local auto shops, Ive even seen em on ebay.
  4. Thanks alot Jeff, I will definitely speak with PCNA next time I am ready to take my car in for something else. I thought they should have covered it after hearing your experience.
  5. Hello guys, I also just noticed a few drops under the right (passenger side) of the engine. the right side was also covered by a dark substance with consistency of mud (I'm guessing my car is too old to have cosmoline?). Do you guys have any idea of prognosis just by this description. i was reading that rms is commonly dead center and right side is likely variocam? I really have no idea about these things. Everything I have learned about my car is from this forum. Just wondering if I am being paranoid about a few drops and being way out of warranty at 70k miles. :o I have had the car since 50K miles with no problems besides coolant tank crack. It is a late 99 model and I'm not sure if rms has been done. Thanks
  6. I have graphite grey leather visors but the lid which has the sticker is black vinyl. I was careful to not let the alcohol or the goo-gone touch the leather. It will definitely damage/discolor it. I thought all the visors had a vinyl lid, even the leather ones.
  7. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...item=2425519161 This is the other auction I wrote about.
  8. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...item=2421694942 that is the one I bought. I havent had any problems yet. If I experience any with the microswitch I can switch it out with my old one since that was still ok, thanks for the warning Jeff. The other one I recently saw on ebay was advertised as having the updated microswitch and it was a brand new part. If you dont want to spend $200 on a new part and cant find a used one you can try fixing your broken one, I soldered the worn out area and it worked great. But I couldnt resist getting a new one for $10 on ebay.
  9. I had the same problem and I believe a few others did too with the hood not opening suddenly one day. I cant imagine anything else causing this other than something caught in the latch or the exact same problem like me. It should work if you have the cable pulled and try to reach the red handle underneath and open it. It would really be a shame to solve this problem by cutting your bumper, I think you are joking right? You might end up with my old bumper though since i traded in my arctic silver 99 bumper in at LA porsche when I got my aerokit. You should see If they have any used aero bumpers I know they had one a few months ago. I think it would be only a few hundred dollars more.
  10. while someone is pulling either the hidden cable or pulling up on the trunk lever try prying your fingers under hood and pull up, use a coat hanger (covered with towel, to avoid scratches) if your finger doesnt fit. I have seen a few trunk latches for sale on ebay, I just bought one for $10 and my trunk is perfect now. You may need to replace that part if this is your problem.
  11. Loren, I am not sure if I understood correctly. Is this bumper a different part from the factory with a non-removeable plug? I guess I am lucky I didnt argue with the body shop guy. Thanks
  12. hey patrick. If Loren says that it is a plug then it can definitely be removed without cutting. I was in the same situation as you a few weeks ago. I took the bumper to the bodyshop to have the plug removed with all the info I recieved about how to remove the piece. It looks very difficult to pull out though and I didnt want to waste the body shop guys time since he was doing it free of charge. Anyways he cut it with a blade and it came out very good. He cut less than necessary so if I wanted to ever take the time to figure out how to pull the plug I still could. Basically, If you pull it out it will definitely be a better choice, but I dont see any harm in cutting it and sanding the edges for a smooth finish.
  13. thanks jeff, I am just over 4 years out of warranty but his main point was that I have 70K miles and am the second owner. I know the service guy fairly well but I dont think well enough for him to go out of his way to help me. Am I correct in assuming that the porsche rep that told him my car would not be covered is the same person that will be contacted if I take it to another dealer? thanks
  14. I took my car in to the dealer and they told me that porsche would not cover the airbag light problem since my car is out of warranty at 70K miles. I have one question. Do you think another dealer might be more helpful. I am waiting for your reply so I can just take that annoying light bulb out :lightbulb: . Thanks alot
