I have fixed the problem... I decided to check over all the pipes around the DVs - they were all fine. I then thought I should look around the wastegates and their actuators (even though Porsche had just set them....) I found that the lovely Porsche Mechanic that had worked on my car had forgotten to re-attach the vacuum hose to one of the wastegate actuators!!!!! I havent paid them so yet so looking forward to what they have to say on Monday! The car now boosts to 0.6 bar (and holds it) with the odd peak of 0.7 bar so I guess all it correct and it is in the standard tune. Thanks for your suggestions wross.
Thanks - I realise that the silicone hoses are only usually put in as a precaution when raising the boost levels that is what led me to think that my car has been flashed at some point in the past. I think that I am going to get the DVs off the car and inspect them - they look like the originals anyway to I think that I will put some Agency Power or Forge items in their place. My wastegates have been correctly set this week at my local Porsche dealer and are functioning correctly from what they have said. I think that since they have set the WGs correctly the DVs can no longer handle the increased boost. I hope this is all it is anyway - the car does not feel that it is actually getting the extra power that 1.1bar of boost should provide, it actually feels slower than before.... Thanks again for your help.
A little more information - today I plugged the car into my Snap On OBD11 scanner and the only fault code stored was P0234 - Turbo charger overboost. Does this mean that possibly my DVs are not functioning correctly?? Thanks again for any help!
I meant that the car has a set of silicon hoses running to and from the intercoolers - I was wondering if this had been done to help with extra boost from an ECU flash. I didnt think that the guys would go near the DVs for a plug change (I didnt when I did my own on my previous TT) but I was hoping it would just be a simple leak or something from there so I dont have to go and get my ECU flashed back to the standard state to get rid of this overly high boost and strange power delivery. Thanks for your suggestions, I will try and get codes read as soon as possible!
Hi Guys, I was hoping that someone might be able to shed some light on a problem that I am having with my manual 2002 TT (non X50)..... I bought the car about 4 months ago and one of the wastegate actuator rods was corroded and not attached to the wastegate itself - at this point the car still went well and recorded 0.7 bar boost on max throttle. I have a workshop so repaired the wastegate rod and replaced the actuator rod nuts on both sides (trying to guess at the correct place to set them) I obviously did not set them right as the car then only recorded a maximum of 0.5 bar afterwards. I booked it in to my local Porsche dealer to carry out the major spark plug service and to set the wastegates correctly. So that was yesterday and I have been testing the car - now under WOT it shoots up to 1.1 bar then flutters down to about 0.5 then goes up and stays at 1.1 bar but to me if feels no quicker than when I first bought it (when it boosted to 0.7 bar) I am also worried that this is causing a problem elsewhere as the PSM and ABS failure lights come on and stay on till I turn the engine off now when I boost it hard - like up through the gears on a motorway at full throttle. Does anyone have any ideas? I have no knowledge of whether the car is 'chipped' or 'flashed' although it does have upgraded boost pipes and a titanium exhaust.... It has covered 54k miles. I am wondering if the dealer may have left a pipe loose around the DVs when they stripped the back end for the plug change (I have read elsewhere that leaks in this area can cause an overboost situation?) Or that it has had a badly flashed ECU due to the amount of boost that it is showing. If I am having these PSM and ABS lights come up is it most likely that I have now got a bust MAF - initially it took about 20 miles for the warning lights to come on but now it seems as soon as it is giving max boost up through the gears. Please help!! Many thanks
Once again thanks to everyone for their help but my problem is now fixed! In the end it seems the alarm just needed to reset itself as after a day and night of the car being locked the windows now behave just as they should! They have not gone down at all and everything is just right again.... I love these problems that fix themselves with no expense needed!!!
Unfortunately I spoke too soon!! I came out to my garage this morning and once again the windows were all the way down..... I didnt lock the car overnight so now it is locked in the garage to see if the windows go down locked - I want to see if I am safe leaving the car elsewhere than my garage! I think that it is time to visit my local OPC to see what they can find......
Thanks Loren and Frank - I did disconnect the battery again, this time I left the key in the ignition as last time the alarm went mad for a while when replacing the battery.... When I reconnected the battery the windows both went all the way down immediately. I put the key in the ignition and turned it on then off and then locked the car with the key and held the key over until the windows closed. I then unlocked the car and have left it - so far the windows are now behaving!! Hopefully I had just confused the alarm system when I replaced the battery?? Having looked around I agree that it could be the same issue although mine have never opened as I am driving - or at least not yet! I think that I will ask a friend at my local opc to hook it up asap next week to see if they can see anything - so far it has not dropped the windows when the car is locked and luckily it is kept in the garage when I am not using it but my confidence is starting to drop as they seem to lower themselves randomly so next time it is locked I may come back to find them down! Also did your interior lights come on when they lowered as mine do? Thanks, Jon
thanks frank, not sure if this is same or not - they always drop when I start the car now and I cannot control them until they are all the way down.... I have also noticed that when I put the key in the ignition and turn it on the cluster briefly says key not removed from ignition - odd as I do not remember this happening prior to replacing the battery?
thanks for the tip but I have already done this. I have just watched the car - once I put the windows up it only takes the car about 2 mins to put the windows down again - the interior lights come on and first the drivers window goes all the way down then the passenger one - I have tried locking it this time to see if it happens in this state! Am worried about parking it now! So I have had the car locked for the last 2 hours and the windows have stayed up - I have now unlocked it and opened and closed the doors a couple of times and so far (only 15 mins) the windows have stayed up - hopefully I just needed to let the alarm reset itself or something as this is the first time that I have locked the car since changing the battery?
Hi All, I was hoping that somebody might have experienced the same problem that I am currently having with my 996tt..... I replaced the battery yesterday and also retro-fitted cruise control - now the windows seem to have a mind of their own and drop fully when I get in the car and turn the key.. I thought that was the only problem but I have just been out to my garage to find that once again both the windows have dropped all the way down. They operate normally and drop the usual small amount when getting in and out of the car. Please can anyone let me know if they have ever had or heard of this rather stange problem?? The cruise wiring is correct as I have doubled checked and had it operates as it should and the car did this before I had it coded for the new cruise items. Can replacing the battery cause this problem? I am going to do the reset procedure now on the windows but am worried about leaving the car anywhere now incase the windows drop! I have to say that this has not happened when it is locked so far - I am going to lock it inside the garage tonight to see if they do it...... Thanks, Jon
Thanks again Richard - my OPC coded the car today for free and it all works just as it should! Alex - I bought the stalks and plugs from Porsche which were around £150 and the repair wires from VW (part numbers are given in the 986 section) - for a 996 Turbo I have found (using Richards knowledge) that it is just a case of running some wires from the new cruise control stalk to the cluster and one down to the fuse box - the correct pin connections are given in the 986 section too. Richard, Thanks very much for your quick reply - I relied on your notes in the boxster thread for the part numbers and the pin connections etc and was hoping it was the easier way! Thanks also for your offer of further help - I hope to wire it all up tomorrow so will let you know if I don't get anywhere! Hi all, I was wondering if anyone can help with some identification? I have a 996tt registered 11/2001 (MY02) and wish to fit cruise control to it. I have the 4 stalk set up, repair wires and connecter but cannot work out if I need to run wires to the ECU in the rear of the car or put them into the grey connector in the back of the cluster? My cruise tell tale light is in the row of warning lights in the bottom of the cluster (not sure if they are in different positions on these cars depending on year?) I have searched though the thread in the 986 section but cannot find out where the changeover is.... Any help will be greatly appreciated!! Many thanks, Jon
