  1. 66,ooo miles and so far zero mechanical engine problems.

    niggles:

peeling fan/temp buttons out of warranty

homelink buttons came apart had to reattach and use crazy glue

slight vibration from front wheels. dealer cannot fix

    intermittent cd stuck in radio

intermittent random dash lights dealer can't find in black box

rear torsion bar tightened after dealer found it loose

besides these annoyances the car has run amazingly well.

CPO runs out in August 2010

  2. It might be worth your while to look a bit more south of LA. there are many independents in South Orange County i can think of.

If i were to go anywhere in LA and trust their opinion it would be TRE Motors. They're incredibly trustworthy and do amazing work.

I live in the Burbank California area and I am looking for a good independent Porsche repair shop. I need to get my clutch replaced in the next couple of weeks and do not want to get burned.

  3. what about the PPI? didn't they drive it? that's pretty sloppy. is the same shop that did the ppi the one replacing the clutch?

fish and denmark come to mind...

Well, I just bought the car back in August with 25.5K miles; I had Porsche do a pre-purchase inspection and they said everything was perfect (cost me $320) - Beverly Hills Porsche. A week later when I was shifting from 1st to 2nd under heavy acceleration the clutch slipped. I took it back to Porsche and they confirmed that in fact the clutch was slipping, they said if I drive "like a normal person" I could get another 3-6months out of the clutch. Unfortunately this means I can't really use the car to its full potential, kinda defeats the purpose of owning a Porsche. I would like to just replace it now (Clutch, Flywheel and RMS) so that I can begin enjoying the car a little more.

I have subscribed to "All data" and the instructions for replacing the clutch seem fairly simple (Great site btw)

Changed my oil, air filter, cabin filter this weekend, plan on replacing my spark plugs and adding Schnell headers next weekend. Will try to post pictures.

  4. i'd spend a good night reading your manual as far as chrono goes.

i tried to figure it out a few hours before track say and didnt get beyond learning how to reset the timer on dash every other round.

it's a pretty complicated piece of equipemnt.

    only other advice is:

    don't lift

    don't brake in corners

    slow in-fast out

and...the car is more capable than most people's abilities.

i would also enable the sports settings but DON"t disable the traction control!!!!!!!!!!!

check your tire pressure throughout the day and as you run more and they warm up you might want to let out air.

    Have fun!

    Friends,

I'm taking my car to the track this Friday for the first time :D

Did all necessary 'race' checks at dealer (changed break fluid and coolant pump (they found some leak there and was changed under warranty)). Now I'm all set and waiting B)

Any advice? tips? how to operate the sport chrono timer? are very much appreciated!

I will post pics after the event

    Thanks,

    Hamad

  5. sweet! thanks!

I found the reason for the rattle in my case ..... it is the chrono watch which is not firm enough inside the pod.

I have not worked on it to fix it, but at least I already know how to remove the chrono watch unit. The pod is only snapped it into the dashboard, so with a pry tool it can be taken off.

That should be also a backup solution in how reaching the area behind the center air nozzle.

Will try to get the rattle fixed during some boring day in winter.

    Rattle problem is solved. :clapping:

One of the two pins of the chrono watch had too much clearance inside its hole on the pod.

I fixed it by placing some cloth tape in that hole, so it reduced the clearance.

  6. hi,

how hard was it to do this and what tools did you use? did you find a write up on it to see how to do it?

    much appreciated.

quick question for someone, I just got 6 plugs from Zims in Dallas to replace on my 2005 997 C2S.

They sent me Bosch FGR 8 KQE, but I think the car should use FGR 5 KQE (per the Bosch catalog)

Does anyone know if the Bosch catalog is right?

Anyway, I'm planning on taking pictures as I change them to post. Seems similar to the 996 procedure, except that there are star bolt on the cover plates and star head screws instead of hex head on the coils.

    Thanks for your help!

  7. Say an 05 or 06 with low miles, under 20k ? I'd like a NAV system but that's the only big option I need. Any thoughts? Thanks,

I purchased a porsche certified 05 997S Launch Option car with 9800 miles...basically a fully optioned car plus PCCB. Sticker was 102K, paid 70K. If you like Black the launch is a great optioned car if you can find one with low miles.

    Dan

wow, nice deal so a 997S with PCCB's for 70K? when and where was this?

  8. hi.

sorry to tell you the bad news but what you got was power memory seats for the driver side. you will need need either:

-wiring harness from 996 AND the power seat memory switch plate and buttons to replace door jamb trunk release panel

    or

    - a really skilled electroncis guy to create a wiring harness to interface between car harness wiring and the seat panel under the seat.

i had EXACT same issue with same seats and same year car.

i was lucky that i knew a Circuit City taleneted ugy to spend time to do this for FREE. it woudl have cost over $500 retail
