  1. I’ve had my '03 Boxster for a little over a year. When I go over bumps, small potholes, or rough bridge expansion joints WITH MY windows up-- my driver’s side door makes a heavy sounding thud.

An area dealer told me they could not recreate the thud- but they did lubricate the top, which seemed to make it a little better-- or at least I tried to think so. The thud never completely stopped, but now it is getting a lot worse. I’ve done searches on all the boards and checked all the TSBs and haven’t found an answer.

It only happens when the window is all the way up. If I crack the window- even a small bit- the thud will not occur.

I would really like to go to the dealer with some ideas for fixing this. Any theories that might help would be appreciated. Many Thanks

  2. I searched for this before posting - couldn't find much... I am buying a hardtop for my 2001 and I've got to install "spinlocks". They drop in pretty easy with the top down, but getting to the bolt that secures them looks impossible without removing trim panels. Now, if this were my ex-wife's car I'd use a pry bar. I'm a little scared to start pulling on the panels behind the seat. I've read about hex nuts near the roll bar, but I can't find them, all I found were what feel like plastic screws under the rear speaker locations. No way to get to them that I can see. Any advice would be appreciated.

I've got $115 tied up in two bolts and two brackets (obscene) and I remain quite puzzled.

    Thanks for any replies.

You don't need to remove the panels. Get a 7-9 inch 5mm Hex wrench. Put the bolt on the wrench- put a plastic bag over the tip of the bolt and punch through the bag just enough for the bolt to thread (preventing the bolt from falling off and down the side of the car) and then angle the bolt to the spinlock area. The top must be up and it helps if you have a little flashlight to illuminate the spinlock.
