  1. Hello!!

    Got a new '09 911 S with 2,300 mi on the odometer.

    I want to do an oil and filter change after the first 3,500 mi. Just because it makes sense to me to get rid of circulating oil that has break-in debris floating around.

    Not trying to out-engineer Stutgart......but....plan to keep this car for a long while.

    Any reason not to??

    BTW, wasting $125.00 to make me feel good is not a waste to me when it concerns this car.

    It's your nickel, but are you planning on changing tranny oil , after all they have to break in as well.

  2. Is it advised to warm up my CS2 - 997 after it being in the garage over night, usually I turn it on and let it warm up for around 3 minutes before driving off.... Also should I keep it on for a bit after driving it hard so that the fan can cool off the motor before turning the engine off or is this only for Turbo's...?

    I wouldn't worry about the "idle" before you turn your engine off, that advice is for turbo users.

  3. Porsche has been racking up debt in the last three years with an attempted takeover of VW. Now some of the debt is coming due. With slowing cash flow and an inability to refinance, Porsche finds itself in an untenable position.

    Yes, now Porsche is being squeezed, their debt is secured by VW shares and if they decline it could get real ugly!

  4. Does anyone know of a list/website for phones that are compatable with the bluetooth option in 09s . I just called Porsche of america and they were no help. I have a Blackberry Curve from Verizon .

    Thanks. Amazing that my dealer couldnt find this and even talked with his North America Rep who didnt have the info. I forwarded it to him. I think this is the UK version , but will assume/hope the US is the same.

  5. 2008 911 GT3

    i was going to change the fuel filter, after a bout of bad gas.

    I let the car sit for a day and popped off the clip that hold the fuel line on the end of the fuel filter. All is good, i pulled the fuel line apart but fuel started to come out.

    I got nervous and re-attached the line.

    However, now the sytem wont repressurize and the car wont start.

    I know this is something stupidly simply but, the fuel pump does not seem to be putting pressure back into the line, what am i missing?

  6. You're right.

    When I bought the car, the dealer was arguing that PCCB were tested on the Alabama race track and were supposed to last for 60,000km ! Under street usage, they were suppose to last for the life of the car... If you talk to any real racer drivers, they will tell you that these PCCB overheat under track conditions and will burn very quickly.

    Seems like PCNA wants to extol the "virtues" of PCCB, while not supporting their claims.

    PLease keep us posted on the outcome of your warranty claim.

  7. I don't think it is "good legislation" to make people buy something they don't want nor need.

    Unfunded mandates are not something I would endorse.

    Wouldn't this be a standard feature now, like anti-lock brakes? You wouldn't actually buy it... at least separately.

    Yes, it is now std equip, but it's not free, nor is it a substitute for checking your air pressure the old fashioned way!

  8. I like to learn about my cars by doing some of the general maintenance myself. Of course, having worked mostly on American cars I lack the knowledge needed to do repairs/maintenance to my 911. Could somebody either recommend and book/guide or a website to look at that details step by step instructions to change the oil and the spark plugs on a 97 Carrera 4S?

  9. Porsche Maintenance Schedule lists spark plug change for the '95 993 at 30,000 miles. Almost every enthusiast site I've visited talks about changing plugs at 12,500 or 15,000 miles. What's the rush here? I'm as much a fanatic about preventive maintenance as most but this seems excessive, especially considering the difficulty of the job on a twin-plug Porsche. Opinions? Consensus?

    In the excellent book, PORSCHE 993 The Essential Companion, on page 139, MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE says 12,500 miles for spark plug replacement.

  10. Elemental analysis of engine oil is subjective IF you cannot get the OEM specs for life/concentrations of key elements that make up the engine's moving parts. Silicon, Iron, Chromium, Molybdenum, Aluminum, Magnesium, Boron etc. are very difficult to quantify in an oil analysis if one does not know the empirical make up of the engine wear parts.

    Molybdenum from the rings, silicon from the cylinder bores or dirt, chromium from rings and camshafts, iron from pistons, cam chains & drive sprockets.......one needs to know the composition of all the moving/wear surfaces.

    So, you can send any sample for analysis - but are the results going to have any real meaning?.....that is the most difficult question to answer without serious OEM involvement. I doubt this kind of information from Porsche is easy to get. You may have better luck talking with a dealer who does oil analysis - do they know of any OEM specs as a reference/guide?
