third motor now has oil leak after 6,000 miles

Recommended Posts

I bought a 2000 Carrera Cab with 38,000 miles on it last yr and through research found out it was on it's third Porsche Authorized motor and the last motor was installed in 2003. I was sure that by this time the dreaded seal problem was fixed. Well, it is currently at a Porsche dealer in Palm Springs, CA for an engine oil leak and it looks to be a seal. I felt an odd vibration the other day at idle, similar to a high speed cooling fan. It went away and I didn't think too much of it. The next day, after driving back from LA (200 miles) I parked it in the garage and the next morning had a puddle of oil the size of a coffe saucer under it. The dealer is diagnosing it and will let me know tomorrow what the problem is. The current motor is out of warranty, by time, not mileage. The dealer of course has already let me know there is nothing that they will be able to do to solve the out of warranty issue.

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated. By the way, how can they sell $80,000 cars that need a new motor every 10K miles?

thanks,

john jordan :help:
