Porsche CDR23 cd/Radio PROTECT Problem

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys and gals,

checked out the search first with no luck.

Like all neebies I have a problem, its with my Porsche cdr23 cd/radio. When my car was 2 weeks old I had my radio removed and my Alpine sat nav gear installed. Now I am upgrading my car so the 3.2S has to go, the guys at the audio shop removed my sat nav gear and reinstalled the porsche radio, but I now get the dredded PROTECT coming up, They told me they thought it was a key code request but my dealer informed me that their were no key codes fro my year of boxster (2003), and I would need to take my car into them to have the radio reset. When I took it in today they spent 15 minutes on it in the workshop and now say that I need a new radio which will cost me £500.00 (around a thousand bucks). Does anyone out there have any ideas of a fix, or must I get a bank loan to pay for bad luck. :cursing:

Thanks in advance.

I'm not very technical - but I'll give it a go :)

The 2003 MOST equipped cars have a connection from the DME to the head unit and the head unit (CDR23) reads the code from the DME on turning the ignition on. For some reason, there's been a problem with your car and headunit.

If you're based in the US Becker have a service to recode the CDR23 - the URL is:

Click on the 'Repair' link.

Hi again - sorry - just noticed you quoted in £'s so you must be a fellow Brit

Becker's European contact details are:

Customer Service Department

Phone: +49 7248 71-1777

Fax: +49 7248 71-1811

E-mail: service@becker.de

Try dropping them an email - they should be able to provide the same service (or better!) as the US.

Thanks for your reply Philip,

I contacted the installers and they have just come round, they removed the radio from the dash and found that they had not pushed home, the yellow plug. When he pushed it, it clicked and the radio worked like a dream, not such bad luck after all. So much for Porsche technicians.

Cheers again :clapping:

Best regards to all members
