Cold Start Misfire-CEL

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have an 05 997S that I purchased with 15,000 miles. The previuos owner installed AWE Tuning mufflers and cats. The car went through Porsche CPO prior to purchase. The cats/mufflers have been on the car for almost a year. After sitting for a week while on vacation, when I went to start the car, it took several attempts to start, and finally started after giving it a little throttle. It ran rough, but cleared up with a couple of quick blips of the throttle. The next day when starting, it started right away, but again had a rough idle, seemed to have a misfire, but this time the CEL came on. I shut the car off, and restarted, no misfire or rough idle, but the CEL stayed on. Took it to the local dealer (I purchased the car from a dealer 60 miles away), and they said that the OBD codes just showed a "random misfire", and claimed it was probably the cats causing the problem. Said that they could not do any further diagnostic's without the stock cats. That all sounds like BS to me.

Anybody have any similar experiences, or any possible answers?

Thanks,

Dave
