Cheap/Reversible Mod to Pass the Broomstick Test?

Hello guys,

I started a thread before, on how to make the Boxster more comfortable and safe for tall drivers (I am 6’4’’). I received very good input and it seems that the best way to avoid hitting the head on the roll-bars would be to buy the GT3 seats and the BK brackets. The problem is my wife is much shorter than me and the changes would make the car very hard to drive for her on a weekly basis. Nevertheless, I wanted to be able to take some DE training and I am positive I will not pass the Broomstick test with my current setup.

I am then looking for a relatively inexpensive and hopefully not so complex way to fit my car for the track and then reverse the process. I am considering getting a driver’s seat – velour Recaro Pole Position without the Porsche emblem, since the regular one looks less expensive (around $600) and the BK brackets. Take the DE training with the seats and then reverse the process. Also I can keep both for future events.

Does anyone else have different suggestions?

Never got an answer? I'm in the same box (ster?). I've installed the BK roll bar extension, but need another 2 1/2 - 3" to be under it. I know I'll NEVER meet the SCCA rules for there to be 2" between the top of the the roll bar and helmet. What did you do? The GT3 seats don't look like they'd improve the headroom much.

MY new to me 2000 S is creating the same problems for me. My solution? Find local tracks/groups that will accept the Boxster without a broomstick test.

I have found that there are some tracks, and some people that put on events at a track that will accept the Boxster and won't worry about the broomstick test. Some require that you run with the top up, some don't care at all.

You take your own safety in your own hands at any high speed DE event, but there are ways around it.

I considered the roll bar extension, but as in your cases, it wouldn't allow me to pass the test anyway, and I don't want to ruin the car for my wife to drive, or us to take on trips. So I will just not go to as many DE events.

I bought a hardtop thinking it might pass the requirements, but for SCCA and PCA it appears that won't be the case. I installed it anyway, and LOVE the way it looks. Thanks to this list for providing the instructions that let me install it myself with zero problems.

I wonder if it would be possible to replace the bottom seat cushion with one with less thick padding. Just an idea. I've never tried it.
