water pump replacement... what else?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Recently the water pump gave up and caused coolant leaking, also broke the drive belt. Going to replace the water pump and belt, is there anything else I should do while I'm at it? like thermostat? is it necessary or just an option? someone mentioned to me to check the belt tensioner/idler pulleys, should I change those too? Thanks! :) :D

Here it is on a 996. http://p-car.com/996/diy/waterpump/

Check the bearings on all pulleys.

Don't know anyone that routinely replaces the thermostat when the pump is replaced.

Have seen this aftermarket pump on ebay.

Takes pictures and notes and then put it in the DIYer section.
