Ipod install problems

Hi Guys

I just completed an Ipod installation to a Becker CDR2220 using this cable via the CD changer input. This is the cable link.

(http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=993).No RCA connections. this is direct from Ipod dock to Becker unit and cables for switched power and one for a ground. I connected the power via the accesory telephone cable under the center console using the Becker provided harness. I rewired the ground and still have engine whine (related to engine speed) through the speakers!! Annoying as hell.

I have spoken to Becker/local Porsche dealership and PIE ( the cable manufacturer) and no revelations . Basically check your ground . Even if I ground to the cigarette lighter I have the same problem ( slightly better).

Once i disconnect power i have a clean noise free sound. Becker workd fine in all other modes Ie CD or radio.

What else can I do?

Could this be a faulty cable?

Faulty Ipod?

Thanks in advance for everyones help.

I had this same problem in my Boxster. What you need to do is buy a ground loop isolator. There a few dollars at Walmart (cheaper than RadioShack). It plugs in between the RCA cables normally, but because you don't have RCA cables I would try looking for one the you splice between the power line.

(Like this: http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Ite...11&tp=2653)

The make them but they are not as readily available. It will minimize the whine so you will not be able to hear it unless you have the stereo up almost all the way. It is not a faulty cable, or iPod.

This is a fairly common problem.

Hope this Helps! :D

Thanks for the input. Before I try that fix I have been researching more

I thought I had a GROUND LOOP problem. Electricians please feel free to correct me. Since I have two separate grounds in close proximity (1. BECKER radio ground and 2. Ipod ground through telephone accesory cable).

So I tried grounding Ipod via airbag control module ( Silver box at base of center console) with supposedely the most stable/reliable ground in the car. NO improvement.

SO is the correct conclusion Faulty Ipod power cable??

You do have a ground loop problem, that is why a ground loop isolator will fix the problem. A ground loop isolator minimizes the static your hearing, so that is only audible at very loud volumes. I have researched this a lot and had the same problem, and the only solution is a ground loop isolator.

Your iPod cable is not faulty. Hope this Helps! :D
