Just bought my first 996, I'm SO Excited about owning it! In the last couple of weeks, I've washed it twice, and both times, after the wash when I crank the car, the "brake wear warning light" is on. Is this a common issue with water getting on some kind of sensor, or do I need to look at my brake pads? The car is a 2000 996 with 24,000 miles on it. I don't think any brake work has been done by the previous and only owner before me.

Electricguru,

Could be the water causing the light. With 24k and no brake work you probably need pads. Super easy DIY. Do search for "brake pad replacement". Lots of threads here.

You can do a visual to see how much pad you have left. Make sure to do it before you harm the rotors.
