Did I Damage My Transmission?

Recommended Posts

Did I damage my transmission? I have a 2003 C4S with about 3K miles on it. Driving down the road yesterday, I accidentally shifted from 2nd to 3rd without the clutch engaged and it made one hell of a noise. I have owned 4 manual transmission cars and never did this before. I feel pretty stupid but my main concern is that I did some damage. The car seems to run fine. Am I in trouble? :(

The noise is from the dog teeth, which haved a point to them. Do it enough and the points gets rounded or you can break a tooth.

If it is shifting from 2nd to 3rd fine I would not worry about it. The only way to know for sure is if the transmission is taken apart. Since Porsche does not sell parts for your transmission not much sense to take it apart.
