New Owner with a few "WTF" Questions....

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Recently picked up a new 08 S with a bunch of tech packages, but now I have a few questions that I need help with and the dealer doesn't know jack**** about the car.

1) I have Navi, if I am in Map Mode or Nav Mode, how do I see my current location, ie: current street name that I am traveling on?

2) As a follow up, when navigating, it just says turn left or right, where can I see the name of the street that I am supposed to be turning on to? And why the hell is the small display in the middle of the dash so **** crappy!

3) I also got the keyless start package and it works fine for opening the car and starting the car, but how I make it lock the doors when it doesn't sense the key in the car anymore? It's just stupid to have to push the button on the door or take the keys out to lock the car.

4) Also got the rear-view camera, but the thing is pointing so low that it gives me a nice view of the bumper and not what's behind me. How can I adjust it up so that I can see behind the car and not the back door and bumper?

5) This is a really dumb one, but I couldn't find the answer anywhere: how often do I change the oil?

Other than that, it's a really sweet ride and I can't wait for the break in period to be over.

Thanks!!

1,2 - I can't help you, I have a model year 2004, but it could be similar. Push map button, and zoom in/out using the right knob to see your current location and path to destination. The calculated path is orange on my display.

3. You can't, as far as I know. I guess in theory you could make a tin-foil pocket for the key... it would block the RFID transmitter. I'm not sure how the system would respond to a key just "appearing" inside the car though. It may trigger the security system, or it may just do nothing.

4. Again, don't have this option, so no real advice, but one way to check is have someone stand behind and point at the camera and continuously close in until you find it, and see if it has an adjustable housing (i.e. not a hard plastic case with a fixed mount point - which is very likely)

5. every 50,000 miles for a turbo, but I'd check your included maintenance schedule to be sure.

I'm not sure about the 50K miles, seems little absurd to me....

Once a year (since it will run you probably $150-$250 per oil change, or more depending on where you live) OR 15K miles is the standard that I use. My Boxster and your Carrera probably use a similar amount of synthetic oil (~10 quarts).

Your maintenance schedule is probably every 30K miles for normal car wear and tear.

OK, I'm an idiot...I thought you wrote Carrera, not Cayenne, I have no clue.

  • 2 weeks later...

Not an owner yet, but drove an 08 S yesterday. Dealer (salesman), told me they change oil at 15K and it costs approx. 200.00.

My 06, BMW, X5, 4.4 (selling to buy Cayenne), has computer regulated oil change time interval that the dealer pays for until warranty is up and they refused to change my oil until the computer said it was alright to do so (in the 20K miles range).

The 08, Cayenne S I drove was great and I'm very interested in buying one right now and I'm trying to learn the issues you all have? Issues like you are having shouldn't happen on these vehicles.

The dealer told me the nav has an "off road" feature which he said is like leaving bread crumbs behind you so you can find your way back if lost. Pretty cool if it works?

Good luck!

1 - the service period is 20K but the computer will tell you

2 - The arrow on the display is your current position

3 - no it will not tell you the street your on (this aint no tomtom)

4 - the display is so as not to distract you

5 - Isn't it about time you RTFM

6 - the rear view camera is to make sure you don't hit something NOT to see backwards You will still have to look where you are going

7 - I think you just press the button on the handle to lock the doors, I don't have that option RFM ?
