Question on PSE on an '08 Boxster S

I just had the Porsche Sports Exhaust installed at a local Porsche specialty shop (much cheaper than any dealer quoted I may add). The last steps in the instructions call for the engine computer to be told the car has this exhaust, which I would have to go to a dealer to do. The bypass pipes are open now when I have the sport button on and it sounds very good. I am wondering if the engine computer part only activates the feature where the bypass pipes open more as the RPMs increase. If this is the case I think I would simply not have that done as it sounds great as it is. Does anyone know if that is what the engine computer activation does? Thanks.
