The driver side window has just recently started squeaking when opening and closing and it’s been getting worst. I tried cleaning both the window and the seal to no avail. The window seems to work just as before but the noise is getting worst. I did a search and one poster said he had the same problem and ended up needing to replace the regulator. Is there a way of testing the regulator? Is there a DYI on replacing the regulator?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I changed the regulator myself. It starts to make squeak noises and then it gets really loud! If you can follow the instructions on installing and removing interior door panels on the forum you can change

the regulator. It took me about 1 hour on a sunday morning.

Thanks for the information. I’m sure I can change it out without too much problems. I’m curious as to what goes bad on the regulator. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Lee,

It starts out as a squeak and gets progressively louder until the window just quits working completely. My drivers side failed and one month later the passenger side failed. Upon disassembly, I found both cables frayed (see photo). The passenger side gave a bit of warning prior to the squeak by not dropping automatically when closing the door. It took me about 1.5 hours for each side.

Do you have a part number?

Lee,

the part numbers for my 99 were 996.542.076.04 and 996.542.075.04 on the invoices from Sunset.

Thanks, and have a great weekend.

Lee
